Wow - some of Domenic's choices are AWFUL.
The 'tape explosion' crashing right into "Do You Like Worms" doesn't work *at all*. I have a feeling I'll just say 'screw it' and splice on the ending from the Smile Sessions version....

Well, "Wind Chimes" is a giant snag.....
The only version with all the sections seems to be on "The Smile Sessions" - which has part of 'whispering winds' layered over the intro. I can't get rid of it. Figures that this song would be *very* unrepresented on the other discs; I was hoping to find a HQ version of the take used on the GV box, but no dice.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Domenic Priore's "SMiLE"?

I'm curious..... has anyone ever reconstructed the track list for "Smile" in the Domenic Priore book? It sounds like it would work quite well (and fit the length of a 1967 LP). As follows:
SIDE ONE 01) Heroes and Villains - The 'Cantina' version, apparently ending after the 'tape explosion'. I gotta admit, this seems like the shortest, most awkward configuration of the song ever; it has no resolution! 02) Do You Dig Worms? 03) The Old Master Painter / You Are My Sunshine - With the sliding strings bumping right into.... 04) Wonderful 05) Child Is Father To The Man 06) Our Prayer 07) Cabinessence
SIDE TWO 01) Good Vibrations 02) Vega-Tables 03) Wind Chimes 04) Mrs. O'Leary's Cow 05) Cool, Cool Water - He seems to be describing the 'Sunflower' version... not sure why one would include that instead of "I Love To Say Da-Da". 06) Surf's Up

Is it that "Heroes and Villains Long Mix" on YouTube? (Though I don't think that hits 18 minutes.)
Man, THAT one defines 'random'.... I'm sorry, but it literally is just all over the place. Using TWO takes of the "Fire" intro is kind of overkill, too.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / 17-minute "Heroes and Villains" coming....

Yes, that's right! You heard right! Seventeen whole minutes of "Heroes and Villains"!
Several years ago, using the structure of the ten-minute 'Heroes and Villains Suite' (from the Odeon Smile) as a base, I began seeing how I could expand that into something even bigger by incorporating songs and sections thought to be slated for inclusion in H&V at some point. I think my final version at the time was something around twelve minutes. Well, that's not good enough!
I've been hard at work on crafting "Heroes and Villains" into a side-long suite, currently sitting at a length of 17:05. Move over, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". :-P
The structure is now something like this...
* Heroes and Villains Part 1 (including Fire intro) * Do You Like Worms * Bicycle Rider Theme / Bridge To Indians * Gee / Heroes and Villains Part 2 * I'm In Great Shape * Heroes and Villains Part 3 * Barnyard * The Old Master Painter * You Are My Sunshine * Heroes and Villains Part 4 * Heroes and Villains Finale (False Barnyard)
I'd like to include the "Eat A Lot" section, but I dunno.... my brain just keeps going "That belongs in Vegetables." I don't like wedging it into H&V, even if it's labeled as a H&V section on the boxed set. It doesn't fit.

Yeah, I've seen that Capitol-esque CD... I dunno what album THEY had, but it sure wasn't "Landlocked"!
Several years back, I picked up the Dumb Angel Rarities version in a local record store, and I'm perfectly fine with that one. (Shame the same label dropped the ball so badly on Adult Child though...)

The sad thing is, that stupid mix of the album with the looped sections and added snorts ended up on more high-level boots like the Dumb Angel Rarities series...
I believe the same folks did a "Smile Millennium Edition", which was the most ridiculously bad version of Smile I have ever heard. Their "Heroes and Villains" had to be heard to be believed.

My only request for you, soniclovenoize? PLEASE redo your uncensored "In It For The Money" at some point! Honestly - there's no reason to use ANY of the 1980's remix. The demo build of the album exists in shining quality (and the correct speed), so you could use that version of "Harry You're A Beast"; not to mention, the second verse of "Mother People" exists on Mothermania, which is now out on CD.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / A mix CD of Brian inspired tracks?

I thought of tossing all the various Brian Wilson pastiches over the years onto one handy disc... any ones you can think of? I only know a handful:
* "Black Sheep" by Dewey Cox * "Trigger Happy" by Weird Al Yankovic (spoofs the surf period) * "Pancreas" by Weird Al Yankovic * "At My Most Beautiful" by REM * "Back In The USSR" by The Beatles * "Shorty Blackwell" by The Monkees - Yes, it's a terrible song; but it seems to be a deliberate cross between Brian's segmented style of the time and the Beatles' "A Day In The Life."
