My SMiLE track list was created by listening to the various little bits and assembling them how I felt musically they fit together.
Your Welcome Heroes and Villains Part 1 (a remade Cantina version with dual Brian/Mike vocals for the verses and restoring the full Cantina section) Do You Like Worms? Surf's Up Great Shape/Barnyard/Old Master Painter/You Were My Sunshine With Me Tonight/Bag of Tricks/Eat A Lot/With Me Tonight (utilising fast With Me Tonight from Hawthorne and the slow version from the SMiLE Sessions) Old Man River (my own edit using parts of both released versions) Cabinessence Heroes and Villains Part 2 (my own edit using various part 2 sections and the chorus from Heroes and Villains plus an alternative of Bag of Tricks and My Children were raised) Wonderful Look Child is Father of the Man (my own edit) Our Prayer Good Vibrations Fire I Wanna Be Around/Workshop Vegetables (my own edit) Holidays Wind Chimes Love to Say Dada/Cool Cool Water (my own edit using parts of All Day as well) Diamond Head/Little Pad/Diamond Head (my own edit)

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What is the most devasting moment in the band's career?

I'm gonna rank the instance where Denny essentially got told he couldn't tour for his solo album and then return to the Beach Boys, without losing his job within the Beach Boys, as pretty high up there in devastating moments with plenty of wide-ranging (and granted, some speculative) repercussions. Awful, awful move by his bandmates.
Especially galling as Mike Love then went on and did Celebration.

-I wonder what Brian's inspiration for Time to Get Along was? "Time To Get Along" would be a great title for a final Beach Boys album. Hey, I didn't know a version of "Bluebirds" was recorded for Wild Honey - is this a new information or did I miss that for a long time? According to AGD's site there are two sessions for Bluebirds: 29/09/67 and 16/10/68. As 20/20 seems to be an album of 'stuff in the can' I wonder if they're the same recording rather than 16/10/68 being a remake?

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Changes/Additions to the Sunflower LP (if any)

I love Sunflower and wouldn't touch it, though am not totally enamoured of Got To Know The Woman and Deidre. I would, however, love to see a Sunflower 'sessions' box (or double CD), with a cappella versions and tracks that were recorded/considered for this album in its various permutations. Here's the back of a double I put together recently. Nearly all the songs were considered, in on form or another, for the Sunflower/Reverberation/Add Some Music album. I know some were recorded after the date the final version of Sunflower was submitted, but I wanted to tidy up a few loose ends - and that's why I included a few songs that predated those sessions. I should point out that most of these tracks are legally available. What's Seasons in the Sun?

Love your reconstructions thanks so much for putting in the effort. Particularly liked your reconstruction of Lifehouse. Have you thought about working some magic on It's A New Day and California Slide? And before AGD tells me it isn't really called California Slide at the moment I can't remember the real name of the song. Is it I;m Going Your Way?

Ah, so it is the same recording that's been booted in the past, nicely remixed. I like how the 'brass' synth sound has been mixed in this version, much less prominent. Brian's vocal sounds like a scratch vocal and I would probably have mixed out his 'like every day' as it so tentative. A very nice version of the song, nicely mixed compared to the bootleg version.
So what versions are out there now?
1. Brian's early piano demo 2. Rocky Pamplin version 4. Bootleg mix from late 70s 5. New remix of late 70s version 6. Solo Brian Wilson version from Classics.. CD 7. Solo Al Jardine version from Postcard
As I haven't heard the demo recording, I'd say at the moment Al Jardine's version closely followed by the new remix of the late 70s versions are my favourites. Solo Brian is probably the worst. Yes, I think Pamplin's version is better than the solo Brian.
