Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Album Discussion Thread

I have heard a few of these tracks played on the SiriusXM Beach Boys channel lately and I was intrigued, as I wasn't aware of this project being in the works. I am a fan of orchestral music and a big fan of the Beach Boys so this album is a win for me. The songs are the old familiar favorites, but the orchestral arrangements provide a much fuller, richer, and warmer sound. "The Warmth of the Sun" was done beautifully. As Al commented "...the fans are just gonna take this one to heart, they're gonna love it. They're going to feel the way I do I'm sure, I hope they do." I do love the album and musical arrangements and I appreciate and enjoy hearing the Beach Boys in a new and musically diverse manner.

Great station and great selections being played! I'm enjoying hearing the mix of music that is being chosen. Hopefully casual listeners of the Beach Boys will come to appreciate many of the non-mainstream songs that are being played. Glad SiriusXM finally decided to give us BB fans our own channel, even if it is only for the summer!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Beach Boys Surf Line on SiriusXM

I've been listening to SiriusXM "60's on 6" this week and heard Phlash Phelps discussing the Beach Boys Surf Line where listeners can call in and share their favorite Beach Boys stories and memories. I didn't catch the number 1-800-......ends with FUN FUN FUN. I'm not sure how long this will run but it might be interesting to listen to what people have to say. "60's on 6" plays a fair amount of the standard Beach Boys songs from the 60's, I know I heard "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "I Get Around" in the last few days. I wonder if requests can be made on this line. Perhaps a few of the non-traditional songs like anything off the "Today" or "Summer Days and Summer Nights" albums. There is so much great music from the Beach Boys in the 60's era and it would be great to hear some of it showcased. For that matter I'd like to hear a variety of Beach Boys music from all eras, not just the 60's. The Beatles have their own SiriusXM channel, why not the Beach Boys?

Glad to see that there are others who also enjoy MIU. It has always been one of my favorite albums from the 70's. Some of my favorites are Kona Coast, Come Go With Me, Sweet Sunday Kind of Love (nice vocal by Carl), Pitter Patter, Peggy Sue and Winds of Change. Being a big fan of Al Jardine I really enjoy the number of lead vocals that he contributes to the album, in addition to his writing and producing talents. If history would have changed for the band, this album could have been the transition for Al into a solo career some years earlier.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Best sounding Beach Boys copycat/covers band, and they are British

If we are talking about current cover bands I would say The Fendertones and The Bootleg Beach Boys. Both bands do some really remarkable and amazing renditions of BB music. The Fendertones reproduce all the vocals and instrumentals with precision and take care to give the music a very authentic feel. The lead singer of The Bootleg Beach Boys sings a pretty mean falsetto and the harmonies also sound very close to original. I've never really researched where they are from but both are a lot of fun to listen to.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: WIBN in final (?) Nancy comic strip

"Wouldn't It Be Nice" if we could all just get along. I was shocked to see the final Nancy comic strip over the weekend, but pleasantly surprised to see that familiar record label and the lyrics to such a wonderful piece of music. References to music, songs, and artists have always been a part of this comic strip. If indeed this is the final strip, it couldn't have ended in a better way.
