Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Questions about the demise of Smile

Why did Dennis and Carl hold their first sessions conveniently during Smile?
Was it because they sensed Brian was perhaps losing it a little bit and they wanted to help contribute to the album and help finish it?
Was it Brian showing them the ropes because he knew he was losing the plot and wanted help? Or because he knew he would be retreating soon and wanted them to continue on whether with the album or as the main contributors?
I find it very odd that Dennis and Carl’s songs from this era have a very uniquely Smile flavor to them compared to anything they would write beyond this album.
Next, where was Al and Bruce at during this period?
Al seemed to have no interest in contributing material or doing sessions like Carl Dennis that we know about; despite being more than capable musically.
Bruce was an accomplished musician/producer at the time but we don’t have anything from Him around this era either.
It must have been obvious to the boys that Brian may be losing the album - why (when this became apparent) - would they not try to band together as they would eventually? Instead they began work on Smiley Smile which is just as bewildering as Smile. Seems strange considering there was a lot of friction in the band over this direction and they as a unit double downed on it almost.

Wait. I see both of your points. I think SC and SiP ARE Beach Boys albums - they’ve all had sporadic participation so it’s hard to draw the line; look at Love You and MIU especially. If LY and MIU are Beach Boys albums then SC and SiP have to be to you.
But - how could you not consider Hot Space a Queen album? All members are there and contributed almost equally for the first time in their career. Hot Space is one of my favorite Queen albums. I feel it’s picking up momentum in the last ten years amongst fans and musicians. It’s certainly their most divided album critically in their canon.

Thinking about sleigh bells... Be with me may be last but I feel like there is something on MIU with sleigh bells .
Bass harmonica - perhaps pet sounds era?
Vibraphones - till I die
Leslie on guitar - you’re so good to me
Tympani - celebrate the news
Dano bass/baritone - today era
Timbales - I get around
Lap steel - Holland era
Triangle - be true to your school (perhaps it was used again? I can’t recall)
Bell tree - kiss me baby
Wood block / temple block - good time
Mandolin - Disney girls
Banjo - surfs up era
Tuba - wake the world
Glockenspiel - girl don’t tell me
Harpsichord - when I grow up to be a man

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Hal Blaine, Larry King - 1990 "Dennis Wilson did not play on Beach Boys record"

Stumbled upon a 3 part video of Hal Blaine on Larry King where Hal takes calls... Listen here (Part 1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6uhbRIV0gs - at 1:30 Hal bluntly says 'Dennis did not play on The Beach Boys records.' Obviously Dennis did not play on all of the songs but I thought it's been determined he did play on a majority of the songs in the early days? Regardless, to say he did not play on The Beach Boys records is downright wrong, and I feel like Hal had to have known that was wrong; I even feel like I have even read he had slight admiration for Dennis rudimentary playing. Statements like this is what perpetrates Dennis limited involvement or that he did not play on any Beach Boys song. Thoughts? Also, of interest to us Beach Boys nerds: In part 3 at 5:50 a fan asks Hal if he has played on any of the unreleased Smile tapes. All three parts are worth hearing as it seems every other question mentions Brian, The Beach Boys, or Phil Spector.

I remember reading that Dennis either tried the song or was considered. I would have really liked it if Dennis sang it. I love the song but jacks voice is so shaky.. plus the interesting combination of Dennis and VDP. Two total opposites. Both in character and in vocal style.
Best tags.. in the parking lot is my favorite, and I haven't seen this one posted I don't think - male ego! I love that damn tag.
