I have been given the ok by Capitol to tell you that the boxes will be autographed by myself, The Heartical Don and Al 'Legs' Jardine. The Don is signing them first and sending them from Holland to Blighty, wherein I scrawl senselessly upon them and then post them to the shortest man in rock.
Only thing is, that Don sure is taking his time......
I think the all important question here is whether Phil will be signing them?!

I've never seen him do that but I have only spoken to Jeff a couple of times after shows and he always been polite and chatted to me (as do the rest of the band, to be fair), even when looking exhausted, like after the first Smile show at the RFH
He certainly always has one eye on Brian, which if you'd seen the actions of some fans, you'd understand why.
Anyways, top bloke who just looks out for his boss!

I first heard The Bicycle Rider Theme in the American Band VHS in about '89/'90 and just loved it.
I seriously got more into Smile around the mid 90s so I'd say I've been waiting for something like this for about 16 years...Jeeeez!
To be honest, it's something I never thought I'd see

That's cool to hear-I wasn't aware he was at that show. A fan who attended the BBs app in Anaheim (Melodyland show-missing from Badman book-but reviewed in LA Times) on Sept 27 and 28 1968 also saw Brian at those shows. The fan had attended Hawthorne HS and Brian ended up conversing with him throughout the show-with lots of questions about old tecahers and students. He also took part in a meet and greet before the show-it was a circular theatre and depending what entrance you came in you got to meet a different BB-the real lucky ones came face to face with Brian
That is such a cool idea-they could've done that at the Royal Albert Hall gig a couple of years ago. *Prays it's Taylor*

It's a fern, it has no feelings.
See what I have to put up with every day? Great conversationalist... but cold. No passion. Understandable, having no nervous system. Sorry, but reading through Andrew and his talking fern has reminded me of this from the Gorilla sketch on Not The Nine O' Clock news: Prof. Timothy Fielding: I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Can I put this into some sort of perspective? When I caught Gerald in '68 he was completely wild. Gerald, the Gorilla: Wild? I was absolutely livid!

This casts suspicion on the November 1st release date for Smile. I imagine it will be even later than that.
1 - I wasn't aware Disney was releasing TSS. Must've missed that announcement. 2 - Given the way Disney sometimes do such tie-ins, it might only be available at Disney parks and stores for a while before it hits the racks. Happened before. Darn… will start sounding out friends with kids plying to Florida… If this be true - and I've no real idea - you can order on-line from Disney stores... or head for Paris. How does, say, September 20th sound for that trip to Paris or is that a bit too early?

I got my ticket for the Friday show over the weekend and I'll hopefully be going to the Saturday night as well.
Don't worry Andrew, you'll have someone next to you......I've just bought a ticket for Phil Cohen!
Although he said the gigs weren't going to happen-is this true?!!!

'Life Is For The Living' ---> 'Wouldn't It Be Nice (To Live Again)'.
Yes, that's it.
Life Is For The Living-definitely. Especially if you could time the yell at the end to coincide with the flames wrapping around your coffin!! Mine would have to include IJWMFTT and end on Tear Drops

Great question and enjoying everyone's different memories of first hearing them. For me, it was 1987, aged 9 and brought up with The Beatles, Moody Blues, ELO and War of the Worlds. My school had a show where each class year would do a different decade and mine got the sixties. Well, there was a medley in the middle where 4 kids where in suits and mop top wigs were followed by some poor kid dressed as a hippie (you probably had to be there!) Well, right after, 4 kids came out on surfboards (actually ironing boards) and on came this guitar riff.....followed by this line about having an ocean.....and then the other voices came in. To say I was spellbound before the chorus is an understatement. As soon as I got home, I went through my parents record collection, chucking Neil Diamond over my left shoulder and Herman's Hermits over my right until I found the Greatest Hits of the Beach Boys. Now, things became a bit confusing. I could put a name to the face of The Beatles and Moodies, even Dave Clarke 5 and The Animals but looking at these 5 guys in white suits, 3 with beards, I didn't have a clue who was who. I know, I'll check the credits.BIG mistake. So, there's a Dyke Parks, a Love, an Asher and this Wilson guy does alot as well so, let's have the short blond one at the front as Wilson (all frontman stand at the front), the guy next to him with the tie can be Dyke Parks, the one at the end looks like an Asher and the cleanshaven one looks like a Love so the other one (Mike!).....well, I'm sure he does something!!
So, now I'd put names to faces (and being quite pleased with myself by doing so!), let's put the record on.....Sloop, Cali Girls, Barbara Ann, I Get Around....hold on, I know all of these from the radio. By the end of Side 2, it was flipped back over again
I then got Endless Summer (as it had Surfin' USA on it) and devoured The Heroes and Villains book in one day as I learnt more and more (including that I was more than a little way off with the names!), I then started saving to buy all the albums-I had Pet Sounds when I was 11, hated it at first, appreciated it at 14, loved it by 16.
So-sorry for the meandering tale but I think a 9 year old at a school concert watching his classmates on ironing boards counts as an atypical introduction to this great band!

I've always thought that "She Knows Me Too Well" has a groovy early-psych sound. "When I Grow Up To Be A Man" as well.*
*I'm not certain if both of these exist out there as just backing tracks.
I have a mix of the backing of When I Grow Up, the end has a tag of the guys singing the ages and I think, possibly Denny, shouts 69 at the end. I was told this was the mix that was prepared for inclusion on the Stack-O-Tracks album but wasn't included for some reason. Originally was to feature Good To My Baby but was replaced by Do It Again. Nooooo-you can't replace Good To My Baby. I was listening to it today and it reminds me of Here Comes Your Man by The Pixies.

Via Google Translate so obv not 100% but you get the idea: "The Beach Boys have 'The smile sessions' a tour of his creation that are developed with the same imagination, audacity and style for 40 years. In addition, his latest work, 'Sounds of Summer' has marked the resurgence of the band and has aroused interest in the band of those who, through their music, are the key to eternal youth. Location: Stage Door Angel. Country House" Obviously it's the Mike and Bruce show but why they have suddenly ditched the Greatest Hits for a night of Smile Sessions is anyone's guess!! I wonder if Mike will get on all fours for Barnyard?

"Linett says Wilson' 2004 "Smile" album has served as a blueprint for the current project, which will be mixed in mono because that' how Wilson‹who' deaf in his right ear‹intended it. But Linett adds that other selections from the 30 hours of "Smile" session recordings will more than likely be issued in stereo." And how long will it be before the mono Smile is followed by a re-packaged stereo release? Not too long I hope! ) A reliable source told me about another 44 years although it'll be out in Duophonic at Xmas
