I am very sad that Michael is gone. He and I spent a lot of time together in our lives before kids. He was always enthusiastic about seeing and trying new things and getting out to see what each new environment had to offer when he traveled - and that was all before the internet when one could check out the town before one arrived in it. He was a gracious and friendly old soul. I am glad his life after the Beach Boys allowed him to spend a lot of time with his family. Michael's whole face became a smile.

Mike was a terrifically talented man, a kind one, and a good one. We first met in Chicago back stage at the Skyline Theater with the Beach Boys when I was on a mission to bring him several Guinness Stout as a favor to a mutual friend. Many laughs--great music.

i was very sad to hear about Mike's passing. i have not seen him for years, but the distance between then and now has not diminished the smile, the talent nor the warmth that i recall. It seems only yesterday that he sat at our piano and filled our living room with the sound of KOKOMO for our family, but Meghan was far from being a college student back then! It was on that very same visit that we learned about Mike's cute little play on words for the word adorable, and we've borrowed it ever since. Both it and Mike were and will always be in our minds and hearts "a door bell". Thanks for making us smile so often. You will always live on in our hearts. Much love to Mike's family.

I met Mike in 1977 when we toured with Leon Russell. We roomed together and got to know each other in that way. What a pure hearted, hilarious guy, and one of my favorite musicians. We took photos of each other. I left that band and he started with The Beach Boys and we lost touch. We reconnected in 2003 or'4 and put together a band. We would hang out and talk on the phone. Because of Mike I also reconnected with Leon and moved to Nashville to tour with him again. I kept in touch with Mike from the road and then we sorta got lost again....now I feel bad about that. We just take it for granted that the best people we know will always be there. I miss him. I cried when I heard the news of his passing and I'm still choked up. I can't stop remembering him and his calm nature and goodness and inspiring music and laughing. My love and prayers go out to Michael and his family.
