Mile Love Talks Maharishi Circa 1972

The man Maharishi is doing a role, his role is to train teachers of meditation. His whole day is geared to that. The problem was that here was a man who was totally devoted to this – here is a rock group and they meet head on.

They gain from each other, the Maharishi gained from the Beatles what he wanted, i.e. publicity, he wanted more people to be meditating. This aroused a whole interest in meditation, intellectuals tried it, and investigated it, some dropped out, some kept it up, and some got a little more interested and wanted to become teachers.

When the Beatles came back and said we're not into his scene, a lot of people may have thought it was a complete denial of the validity of meditation, but it wasn't, because they thought meditation was a good thing but they weren't into Maharishi.

Soon meditation will be part of the syllabus of universities all over the world. Twelve years ago there was one teacher of meditation, now there are over two thousand. It's increased by 100 per cent each year.

When the Beatles came back from India, they went into doing Apple records, instead of putting their careers aside to pursue meditation. So they weren't really into it.

Al Jardine On The Maharishi

Al Jardine pays tribute to the late Maharishi Mahesh Yogi:

Jardine's statement read in part: "(Maharishi) would chastise me in a kind way if I stayed away too long, 'Where have you been?'And of course I could not think of a single good answer because being in his presence made one feel like a complete idiot for staying away too long. He left me with a tool to deal with life and its complexities. For that I will always be grateful, and whenever I'm dipping into that 'pool of peace inside,' I will always think of him. Jai Guru Dev, Al Jardine"

Mike Love On The Maharishi

Mike Love has issued a statement on the death of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

"While in Paris participating in a UNICEF benefit show, the Beach Boys were introduced to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. That was in December of 1967. Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson, Alan Jardine and myself along with several family members learned the TM technique from Maharishi himself. Two months later, I made the journey to Rishikesh, India where Donovan and the Beatles also attended a teacher's training course. Alan and I both became teachers of TM a couple years later." "To say that what I have learned from Maharishi has been of great benefit to me is an understatement to be sure. Maharishi has designed a pathway of development of human potential... No less a goal than that of world peace was Maharishi's life's work. For those of us who were fortunate enough to have been in his presence, his passing is profoundly sad." Love ended his statement by saying, "I for one, am among the millions who are grateful for what he shared with us on this, 'The dawn of the Age of Enlightenment'on the way to the goal which Maharishi called 'Heaven on Earth.'We will miss you, but your great light will shine on. Jai Guru Dev, Michael E. Love."
