I have always loved the "never ending chord" at the end of "A Day In The Life" by The Beatles.  And of course the hillarious spoof of it in the Rutles movie.  I can't recall the name of the Rutles song though!  Was it on "Cheese and Onions"?

"White Shadow" on Peter Gabriel II, end of side 1. There's a sustained note at the end of the song that on vinyl actually goes into the runoff groove, so it is literally neverending (unless your tonearm picks up automatically).

I've been told that UK promo copies for Sweet's "Lies In Your Eyes" do the same...holding out the last note indefinitely. I guess they considered doing it on the actual release but decided against it, or something to that effect.

Yes, I'm referring to the Dennis track. Man I hope the POB reissue will have the backing tracks to all the songs.

Radiohead's "The Tourist," where it builds up to this great, emotional climax, then everything gets stripped away, before the song (and album) abruptly ends with the sound of a tiny bell.

I also really love the end of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," where the Moog noise just gets louder and louder until the song suddenly gets the plug pulled on it altogether.  I'm a sucker for sudden surprise endings like that.

"EMI" by the Sex Pistols.

Good call!  The best use of a fart on an album by far!!!

I got one.  Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge - "The Worst That Could Happen" when the song dies and the horns come in and restart it.

I usually don't like the songs that end with a big high note, but Elvis' "American Trilogy" is an exception, he takes this well written medley, ending with the battle hymn of the republic, and just raises it up to an impossibly high level at the end.  Makes the song sound as big as it should.

Good point, I almost can't listen to that song (WGFA) anymore because I'm afraid that my heart will explode!

Nothing better for a song ending than the birds chirping sounds at the end of Layla.
Dont know why its like that, but its really part of the song.

I can't believe nobody put up         "Atlantis"    by Donovan
"Hey Jude" Beatles    They actually sorta sound the same if u listen to them, not the notes, just the whole ending part.  Its not hard to believe that Donovan and Paul hung out.
