Wanted to pass on word that the Standells will be playing the band's first-ever gig at the Whisky A-Go in Los Angeles this coming Feb. 5.  The band's "Riot On Sunset Strip" is the lead-off track in the NUGGETS compilation that's up for a Grammy for Best Historical Record this year.  This gig will also be interesting for me, as it's my live debut as a member of the group!

The Standells never played a single gig in the 60s?

I see over on Facebook some discussion regarding the fuzz effect or lack thereof on original Standells tracks - very interesting!

If I may ask, as a guitarist and lover of the classic LA tones, what kind of effects setup will be used for this and other shows? I ask because I've been on a quest for the "Incense And Peppermints" Gibson Maestro fuzztone, and my compromise was the silver Boss "Fuzz" pedal that has a Gibson Maestro simulation that works pretty well. Of course Dirty Water didn't have a fuzz box, but I'm curious about what will be heard on stage.

Thanks and I wish I could be on the West Coast for the show! Right now I'm snowed in on the East.

You deserve a break today.
Make some plans, jump on a plane and spend a couple of weeks in LA. You can catch the Standells, hang out, go see the Beatles/BBs/Gore flick at the Egyptian, maybe even sit in with  some bands. It could be the start of a whole new, warm weather career!
