Does anybody know how to get a recording of the song?

Bonnie Lou recorded a version which was released on single. There's an offer of a 45 on Ebay at the moment:
http://cgi.ebay.nl/Bonnie-Lou-Please-Don-t-Laugh-When-I-Cry-78rpm-/260506419508?pt=UK_Records&hash=item3ca7648134

A recording by Johnnie Lee Wills apparently also exists. Couldn't find one though.

The Bachelors version is a little bit easier to take, at least for me; Sounds like it's from an interview? with one of the Wilsons and Dr. Demento maybe:

This is the verison they played in the "american family" mini-series.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

I never watched that.
Are you saying the interview voices are from the mini series and not actual BBs?

Not quite, in the mini-series Murry has it on a vinyl record and plays it obsessively in the Wilson home

ugh, it's still so terrible. a much better arrangement, yes. but the song is just so bad. especially the lyrics. oh my god. how is this the father of of the Wilson brothers? oh my god.

within two step, side step is the entire beach boys career and brian wilson's. two step side step is a microcosm of the beach boys world. within the seed of two step side step lies the entire source of brian's genius. just listen to the infectious hook, two step side step, then a whirl away
