Wow!  Mike Love still in his Maharishi garb in '69? And is that Daryl Dragon playing the keys next to Ed Carter?? Maybe the same line-up as the Live In London European tour of late 1968. Probably the same horn section - they're great! And Bruce is all over the place wailing on the organ, bass, and high vocals. The most active that I've ever seen him! The Boys at their finest vocal era - Carl with the 12-string on I Can Hear Music.....and wowwee! Please Let Me Wonder & Warmth Of The Sun!! Somehow, guys in ice cream suits and Mike in the goofy robe (where's the turban?) singing I Get Around looks a little weird. I think Mike went off the deep end soon after this - damn is he acting strange or what? Dennis' drums on Do It Again sounds like the record. Desper was probably mixing the show with a little reverb thrown in at times. And Breakaway! Was Murry really in the audience? And Bruce again on the Nearest Faraway Place! First time I ever heard that live anywhere. Maybe one of the very few (or only?) times live? And Al with Cottonfields before he re-released a new version - sounds really good!

At the lowest point of their career, but boy they still put on a great show, eh?

And did I mention Mike Love was NUTS?

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

This footage is really the missing link in the band's history...it's great, and seeing the '69 onstage dynamic it also hints at why Carl Wilson spearheaded remaking the band in '71, too.

Btw, did anyone suddenly open the French Beach Boys video files? We've had some real treats this last week.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
