Wouldn't it be cool to make a complete BWRG songbook before the album has even hit the shelves? I'll start with my rough draft of a TAB for They Can't Take That Away From Me:

THEY CAN'T TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME

Ab

                                      Ab
The way you wear your hat
                                  Bbm7 - Db/Eb
The way you sip your tea
                             Ab  - Ab7
The memory of all that
              Db                   F7              Db/Eb
No they can't take that away from me

The way your smile just beams
The way you sing off key
The way you haunt my dreams
              Db                   Db/Eb        Ab  -  G7
No they can't take that away from me

              Cm   F        Cm7    F                    Cm7                  Dm7  -  G
We may never never meet again, on this bumpy road to love
           Cm        F          Cm          F            Bb  -  Db / Eb
But I'll always, always keep the memory of

The way you hold your knife
The way we danced till three
The way you changed my life
                   Db                   Db/Eb        Fm  -  Ab
No No they can't take that away from me
              Ab                   Bm7 - Eb7 - Ab
No they can't take that away from me

These are probably slightly wrong - I made a thread about it on another section of the board - but this is what I got.

C                 C7             F        Fdim
theres a somebody i'm longing to see
C/E         D#dim
i hope that she
G/D       C#dim
turns out to be
Dm7      Em   Fmaj7     F/G         C (Don't know the bit inbetween the chorus and verse, I'm afraid)
someone to watch over me

i'm a little lamb who's lost in the wood
i know i could
always be good
to one who'll watch over me
C
C7               F
although I may not be, the man that, girls think of, as handsome
          C
to my heart
      D7     Dm7    F  G
she carries the key

wont you tell him please to put on some speed
follow my lead
oh how i need
someone to watch over me
someone to watch over me

Fade out on C

I also have nearly figured out I've Got A Crush On You....

I did The Like in I Love You a week or two ago. It's in the Smiley Smilers Who Make Music forum.

The chords to 'I Loves You Porgy' are awesome...that Gbmaj7 in the bridge gets me every time...

Verse:
Dmaj-7 – Em7 – F#m7 – Bm7 – F#m7 – B9 – E9 – Gm7 – D/A – Bm7 – Em7 – Gm7 – D/A – A11 – D – D7+

Bridge:
Gm6 – Eb7 – D7 – Gm6 – Gbmaj7 – F7sus4 – F7 – Bbm – Bbm/Ab – Gbmaj7 – F7sus4 – F7 – Cm7 – A7+

Cool thread!  My musical brain isn't working too well right now, but I did have one quick correction.  In "I Got Rhythm," that second chord in the chorus (on the "I don't mind him" line) isn't an A, its a chord I don't know the name of (I want to say Em b7)...basically, an E minor triad (E, G, B) with a C# thrown in.

I think you're both sort-of right. A9. (A, C#, E, G, B).

You've got it Luther...a quick trip to the piano and that's it exactly.  My favorite chord in the song, not-so-coincidentally.

What I'd be really interested in knowing in this thread is how these chords differ from Gershwin's originals.

Right off the bat, it seems like he's doing some tweaking in the medley. The modulation at the end of "Summertime," the bridge in "It Aint Necessarily So."

Listening around to various versions, whats amazing is that he doesn't seem to have changed much of 'Crush' - just accentuated the 50's elements of the chord structure with it's arrangement. Some versions seem to be doo-wop tunes before they knew what doo-wop was....

I've been fiddling around with S'Wonderful....
Ebmaj7
S'wonderful!
Gdim
S'marvellous!
Fm7                        Bb7
That you should care,
       Ebmaj7
For me!
's awful nice! 's paradise!
's what I love to see!

And i'm not so sure about this..
Gmaj7                          G7
You've made my life so glamorous
   ?                                         Fm7       Bb7
You can't blame me for feeling amorous.

Can anyone fill in the blanks?

Some versions seem to be doo-wop tunes before they knew what doo-wop was....

Keep in mind that the primary "doo wop" chord progression is either I-vi-ii-V7 or I-vi-IV-V7, which was a very standard pop/jazz progression. It's less prescience than the fact that these just happen to be the things doo-wop lifted from what was already firmly in place. (A bit like saying, wow, those blues guys were doing rock 'n' roll before there was rock 'n' roll, as opposed to that rockers were borrowing from blues.)
