Your ideal compilation of the next archival release
«

As the anniversary approaches, I'm sure ideas are being tossed around, but one that I'd love is a new archival release (particularly of 1970 to present). Some of the tracks I'd include would be some tracks that are only found on really rare albums and left over live tracks recorded for future/unused live albums. I'd love to see what stuff you want released.
proper mixes:
-Sound of Free
-10 Years of Harmony
-Rock and Roll to the Rescue
-Chasin' the Sky
-It's a Beautiful Day
-California Dreamin'
-Wouldn't it Be Nice (live at Big Sur)
-Happy Birthday America
-Crocodile Rock
-California (from Stars and Stripes)
-East Meets West
-Almost Summer
-Sea Cruise
Live tracks recorded but unused for unknown reasons:
-At the Hop (intended for 1985 album)
-You Need a Mess of Help to Stand Alone (intended for the first In Concert album)
-Jumpin' Jack Flash (" ")
-God Only Knows (Beachago)
-Darlin' (" ")
-Searchin' (with Grateful Dead in 71)
-Your Song (Bruce on lead, lecturing audience
)
-I've Got a Friend
-Okie From Muskogee
-Rock and Roll Woman
-I write the Songs (Knebworth 80)
-Santa Ana Winds (" ")
-River Song (live in 73)
-Country Pie (live in 78)
-Dead Man's Curve (with Jan and Dean in 78)
-Imagine
-Spirit of Rock and Roll (at the 20th or 25th anniversary show, I can't remember which one)
-Runaway
-Still Cruisin'
-Lady Liberty
and then some songs that just need to be RELEASED of great songwriting
-Big Sur (original version)
-It's Trying to Say
-Deep Purple (just a great rendition that needs released)
-Lines
-Flowers Come in the Spring
-Lookin' Down the Coast
-Seasons in the Sun
-You're Still a Mystery
-Stevie
-We Got Love
-Wouldn't it Be Nice to Live again?
-It's a New Day
-California Feeling (74 and 78 cut)
-It's Like Heaven
-Come to the Sunshine
Sweet Mountain
-original Ding Dang
-First Love
-Carry Me Home
-Here Comes the Sun (Dennis cover)
Sure, it's a lot and prolly impossible, but a SmileySmiler can dream, right?

Ok, I'm just gonna go with unreleased tracks, and try to make a nice comp....here goes nothin:
-California Feelin' (Brian '74)
-Where Is She (Brian '69)
-(Wouldn't It Be Nice) To Live Again (Dennis '71)
-You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling (Brian '76)
-Burlesque (Brian? '72)
-Carry Me Home (Dennis, Blondie '72)
-Sweetie (Brian, Mike, Al '81)
-Why Don't They Let Us Fall In Love (Mike '81)
-You're Still A Mystery (Brian, Mike '95)
-Game of Love (Mike '67)
-Baby I Need Your Lovin'/Gimme Some Lovin' (Brian, D. Sandler '73)
*Singers and recording year to the best of my knowledge in parethesis.
I'm sure if this was put out, there would have to be more of a Mike, Al, and possibly Carl presence, so we'd probably end up with some random Mike solo song, and some Al song that was started 35 years ago. I just hope that if they do indeed do an archive release, they include the '74 California Feelin', (WIBN)TLA, Where Is She?, and Burlesque, since for the first 3 I've heard great reviews from AGD and the like....and for the last by Mr. Jack Reilly, who made "Burlesque" sound quite intriguing, especailly considering it was during the C&TP era.

Here's mine:
1. Back Home(1963 version)
2."Brian at the piano"(short clip on the Garage Tapes)
3. Blowin' In The Wind(Party! outtake)
4. Mona Kani(Dennis track)
5. "water chant"(SMiLE outtake)
6. Do You Like Worms?(version with the weird slide guitar at the end)
7. Look
8. Tones
9. I'm Going Your Way(Dennis outtake)
10. Add Some Music(original lyrics)
11. Breakaway(acapella)
12. My Solution(just because it's quirky as hell
)
13. Big Sur(original version)
14. Surf's Up(acapella)
15. You Need A Mess Of Help( live soundboard recording)
16. River Song( see above)
17. River Song(1974 outtake()
18. California Feeling(1974 Brian demo)
19. Lucy Jones( Brian demo, mainly to chronical his changing voice)
20. song that adamghost has heard but won't reveal the name of(see above)
21. Mount Vernon and Fairway(Home recording of Brian. In my mind, the original master tape would be remastered, and the demo would go on for sveral minutes, like the booted version)
22. Rollin' Up To Heaven
23. Good Timin'(original 1974 version)
24. The Night Was So Young(acapella)
25. Adult Child(comeplete album recorded as is, as a bonus disc.
)
26. Lazy Lizzy(or however you spell it)
27. Marilyn Rovell
28. California Feeling(studio version with Carl and Bruce singing)
29. Here Comes The Night(disco version...recorded live, if any tape actually exists in the archive. I doubt it though
)
30. Johnny B. Goode(just because it's the very last studio recording of The Beach Boys with Dennis playing the drums)
31. Stevie(A solo Brian recording...?)
32. Oh Lord(From the "Cocaine Session". In my mind, the original recording would be remastered, and it would be carefully edited to remove any of the "rougher" parts)
33. Why Don't You Tell Me?(see above)
34. City Blues(see above)
35. Labor Day(1983 Dennis recording, although it's
very
unlikely that the tape still exists)
36. "And we sang God Bless America"(second half of Endless Harmony, acapella, and programmed to be a "secret track")

All I want is a post-
Smile
, pre-
M.I.U.
sessions collection of previously (officially) unreleased tracks from ~1967-77. Why is this so much to ask for? Hell, you could probably release something like this in the U.K. where they stayed reasonably popular during this time, I reckon. Now, I would personally need it to be a multi-disc box set filled with studio demos and rehearsals, live recordings, &c., but I'd settle for something like Neil Young's
Archive, Vol. 1: 1963-72
with a mix of previously-released tracks and copious rarities.

Surf's Up outtake, so 1971 would be more accurate. But I agree: nr 1 on my compilation list

Why did I put '74? I thought I typed '71, and alas, I didn't. Thanks for pointing that out.

A new BB rarities comp, let's see... A few new stereo mixes, a couple of instrumental backing tracks and a capella mixes, a live track or two and perhaps yet another edit of the Good Vibrations recording session highlights?

I'd like to see that concert from 70(71?) where Mike resembles Chewbacca, Dennis is missing, Bruce proves to the world that he can't carry off a mustache and they perform a cover of Oakie from Muskogee get a decent CD DVD issue.

That's indeed the one!! Never noticed Dennis on piano before, just that he wasn't drumming and assumed it was from when he'd sliced his hand up. I've never been all that bothered by "It's About Time" before but it really made for a great live piece. They were just so damn cool at this point and I'd love to have this concert on DVD!

I would love to see a lot of studio sessions from 'Today!' and 'Summer Days' (instrumental sessions as well as vocal sessions). I'd love some a cappella from those releases as well. I'd also like to see an official release of Brian's '76 piano demos.
I'd like to hear 'Party!' without the party sounds. Who doesn't want some more SMiLE material officially released?

Is Going Public on an official CD?
BGO Records (
www.bgo-records.com
) released a Surfin' Round The World + Going Public 2fer in 2007.
any bonus tracks involved?
Just the ones that were on the Surfin' Round The World CD re-issue (Down Under and The Hamptons backing tracks and Surfin' Round The World alternative version).

It would be nice, if unlikely, to see a double CD released next year containing 50 rare and unreleased songs from the band's entire history. Ideally this wouldn't include alternate takes of the hits, but the genuine rarities that are out there.
Being greedy, I'd also like to have a similar double CD set featuring rare live songs that the band have played over the years.
