Continuing with another batch of covers:

Bill Frisell - Surfer Girl (at the Fretboard journal) - from his latest album; Bill talks about how it was the 1st single he ever bought. Cool to hear SG in a jazz mode.

Randler Music - I Get Around - pretty rad for a gang of youngsters. Listen to the guitar solo & short vocal bit after the final chorus ("Get around. Get Around. I Get Aro-o-ound!!!").

I Get Around multitrack cover - interesting version, slightly slowed down but it works!

The Who - Barbara Ann - not the one found on Brian's Mojo tribute, it's an actual rehearsal clip. Fun to watch.

Kosovo, Kokomo parody - as you see from the title, yes, the lyrics are altered. All the names of places, at least.

It's no secret punk groups are big fans of The BBs & oftentimes perform their songs. Here's some gems from different years:

Ramones - Surfin' Safari - always loved this band & esp. the lead singer's voice

Vandals - Kokomo - fantastic what they did with the original, I'd've never imagined hearing this islandic tune done as punk.

The Tidal Waves - Fun, Fun, Fun

The Veterans - Be True To Your School - complete with cheerleader calls, yep.

The Queers - Don't Back Down

For dessert, the 1965 Estonian cover of "Then I Kissed Her": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzfW3Y2lDaU
It's not technically a BBs song, but the singer is a guy so I thought to bring it here anyway.

Great finds! That BTTYS cover is fantastic.

Spacey cover of Dennis/Charles tune
You'd think the female back vocals could not work, but they did! The main singer sounds good as well, & I certainly liked the extension of the "ahh" near the end; it's more than a minute. Otherwordly.

No idea whether these two have been linked yet:

A tremendous version of "Surf's Up!" by David Thomas and Two Pale Boys...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-cpLG36V3M

...and a slightly less tremendous version of "Good Vibrations" by The Troggs:

Sorry, john, those had been posted already. The Troggs' "cover" sounds nothing like the original, they even changed some words (but it's minor). Not good, mildly speaking.

The Troggs decided to make their version  of GV their own; That's perfect!
ABSOLUTELY NO reason for everyone to sound exactly like the BBs just to please you, RRa1.
But, in any case, there are similarities in the songs. Perhaps you simply didn't listen?

Okay, let me clarify it. I don't mind that their v-n discerns from the BBs', in fact I dislike it if musicians do note-for-note replica of original song. My real issue with the cover was the (godawful) lead & arrangement. The "not good" comment was clearly about this. And as for similarities, I did listen to it well enough & I still perceive it as totally different song, never recognize GV in it on the spot.

Today, for some reason, I remembered this thread & how cool it was of Google to make the Moog feature. Very creative. Kudos to Barnshine.

(Another of my favorites on Google is annual Halloween stuff, by each year it gets more adventurous & mystic.)

Today I was sorting out my mp3 library & guess what? I have an obscure 1968 cover of Good Vibrations! It's by "Jonna Gault & Her Symphonopop Scene". Need to say, a very polarizing record, you may not like what you hear. Still, it's a curious version, if a little whacked out, with the harmonies "sung" by the instruments.

Based on what I heard (3 albums from diff decades), this band does nothing for me. Yet... I liked this cover. A bit too dramatic, maybe, but still nice. Good vocs, in fact.

Just stumbled upon this... I've never heard it before.  A jangly mid-60s cover of "Girl Don't Tell Me" by some obscure 13 year old singer.  I made it about halfway through and was about to hit the "x" button as I felt I'd heard enough, but then some very nice background vocals kicked in.  Makes me think about what this track might have sounded like with some more BB background vox.

Sure, another Gary Usher footnote.  Never thought about Keith being 13 at the time, tho.
Did everyone that worked for Gary end up as a Christian artist?

It's John Sebastian's guide vocal over Keith Moon's track for his "Don't Worry Baby" cover from Two Sides of the Moon. I guess it's "better", even if it is only a guide vocal, though he doesn't sound very enthusiastic about it at any point... LOL

Heard this on the radio today. The video above is gone, but bonus tracks from Keith Moon's album are available. "Don't Worry Baby" starts 2 minutes in, after 45 seconds of Keith and Ringo messing around, and some studio warmup.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19M3flwWrnc

Allmusic is fun. I typed "You're so good to me" in the search box to find the covers & this is what were the results*:

The Factotums (they also did "Here Today" & "In My Room", from the tribute album "Guess I'm Dumb")

The Fireballs (don't mistake it with "Fireballs" sans "The", an Australian psychobilly band)

Math & Physics Club (unlike the other 2, this one is dated 2005.)

*Among other songs of the same title.

I tried to find "At My Window", but it was Townes van Zandt all around. 'Cept an obscure long version by some Greg Davis:

They also did "Don't Run Away", Bruce & Terry cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bfg6XZedFpo

Awful vocals, very shaky, like she didn't rehearse at all, at times it goes off-pitch. In other videos of DRA she sings just as bad.

And of course, she didn't & couldn't do any justice to Glen Campbell's version. But at least she tried?
