Who is Golden Smog, by the way?
A "supergroup" (tongue in cheek, even by the members, I'd guess) side project that has at times included guys from Wilco, Jayhawks, Replacements, Soul Asylum, the Honeydogs, and other mostly midwestern rock or alt-country rock types of bands. Jeff Tweedy, of course, is the connector between the past few covers of L&M. He, I think both as Wilco and Golden Smog, performed it at assorted then-candidate Obama rallies before the last U.S. presidential election, but had also recorded it earlier.

'Life' suite from SMiLE covered on piano.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLyX3UnnWVk&feature=related

I never realized just how baroque SMiLE was until watching this video - I am still floored after watching it twice. The cover of 'Song For Children' is stunning.

On the 2008 compilation Thank You Friends; The Ardent Records Story 1960-78 (Ace/Big Beat CDWIK2-273) there is, as the last track on the second disc, a fragment of an Alex Chilton studio recording of "Don't Worry Baby". It's great for what it is but... I wish (in vain) it was longer!

It's alright, kind of rolls on in the same way though - if you'd heard 30 seconds, you've pretty much heard the whole thing Tongue

Yesterday I was watching Brian Wilson Presents Pet Sounds Live and it came to 'I Know There's An Answer' and Brian said it really had Bob Dylan-esque lyrics. I started listening to it and saw the connection. Then I wondered what it would sound like if Dylan covered it....then I decided to do an acoustic cover myself...

Instead of being solely an acoustic cover it turned out to be a mix of Bob Dylan, Dick Dale, and The Beach Boys all rolled into one.

Here you can listen to a short snippet of Sandy Salisbury's "On and on she goes" (With Me Tonight).
Never heard the whole recording. Sounds nice. Is it any good ?
http://www.amazon.com/Sandy-Salisbury/dp/B0007XTO5W

Sandy Salisbury's version of On and On She Goes (With Me Tonight) has been a huge favorite of mine ever since it was released as a single on Together Records circa early 1970.  Don't think it charted anywhere, but it's available on iTunes for 99 cents.  Unlike the writer's credit on Smiley Smile, which lists Brian Wilson as the song writer, the writer's credit on the Sandy Salisbury single lists Brian & Carl Wilson.
