Ah -- a 35 minute album. Pure Brian Wilson.

Neat to see the little Porgy and Bess mini-suite -- 3-6 are from the opera.

He'd said they were doing "the pretty part" in interviews, which likely means the slow song-like bit in the middle. Not a surprise, really. I didn't expect him to do 20 minutes of it.

Maybe if he had, it would've rounded out the 35 minute album to an even 55.

Looks good doesn't it Smiley

They finished recording and mixing ages ago, and the mastering is presumably done if we have tracklisting and all, so why do we have to wait another two months for the thing?!

Oh well.  Smiley

Yeah, but only 1:47, split in two, on GG's greatest work :-(

And the 35 mins is pretty thin by today's standards

As I recall, GIOMH was about 55 minutes.

Of sh*t.

Whereas Pet Sounds was about 32 minutes.

Of stone genius.

Again, I'll just put forth a proposition: you cannot petition the lord with prayer. Also, what say we wait until we actually hear the album before we start bitching.

Here! Here!

I'm loving the tracklist. I really cant wait to hear this album. Curious as to how Brian
arranged the material if he gives a jazz flavor to the songs or just goes in another direction.

We're gonna have to wait anyway...
Still:
While it's easy to imagine Brian only planning to do 12 songs of about 3 minutes each, since that's all he's (seemingly) ever  produced for a single release,
it's hard to believe there's not one person in Brian's camp that would bring up the short timing; someone to try and convince him he might get a better reception if the release was larger.
Of course, maybe that's where the Best Buy/Walmart/Itunes( EXCLUSIVE) bonus tracks come in to play...

36.21, actually.

But I wasn't even harping on the length. I think it's great -- TLOS was under 40 minutes IIRC, and IJWMFTT is under 30. Brian is a really old-school guy when it comes to album length, and it's kind of charming, really.

I've always thought 35-45 minutes is about right for an album. More than that and 99% of the time there is filler, because there was a need to fill up all of the space on the CD, whether you were truly inspired or not.

Now had Dennis done a Gershwin album, that's what it might have been called...

That's the thing - "today's standards".  I prefer Brian's standards. If you want today's standards, buy today's music, if there is such a thing!  Roll Eyes

I believe that mtaber is correct about the time. I just added it up myself.
