What happened to Eddie Van Halen? Did he burn out? Did he lose all desire to release new music? Did his divorce from Val and the mouth cancer just rid him of all desire to play guitar? Why did the greatest rock guitarist of the 70's and 80's just disappear and become irrelevant?

Well, a certain guy called David Lee Roth was let go. That was 21 years ago.

Sammy tried, and he brought some good vocals and melodies to the band, but Dave was the perfect fit. Is Eddie just tired and tapped out?

He probably needs a break. 30 years on the merry-go-round, touring, recording, the breakup of the family, facing cancer, lineup changes, decreased sales. He probably figured it was time to take stock and live for himself a bit. We tend to see that as dropping off the face of the earth, but it's probably long overdue and exactly what's called for.

Was he fired? I thought Roth quit. No?
