I am finishing up the Bob Greene book on his touring/traveling with Jan and Dean a few years back.  A delightful and sometimes bittersweet book on the road life of J&D and traveling oldies and surf bands.  A lot of mention of road exploits with surfband stalwarts  such as Randell and Chris and revealing insights on Jan Barry and Dean Torrence.

I suppose I'm not the only one here to read this.  Did you enjoy this as much as I have?

I have been looking for a Jan  and Dean book for years. I still have yet to ever see a single book of them, ANYWHERE. I don't mean a specific book, I mean any kind of book on the subject of Jan and Dean. I find this very odd, considering how many Beach Boys books you can find. I seem to have derailed the topic somewhat. Sorry.   Grin

Well, Jay, here is the book.  / And a delightful book at that by one of the top journalists about touring with these guys in the 90's.

Look at your local book store or online.

Happy reading!!

Thanks for the tip.  Wink I've always been interested in Jan and Dean, but all I have is the Dead Man's Curve movie  to go by. Which I have heard is like a "noob"  watching Summer Dreams.   Grin

You might want to check Amazon. That's where I got 'Deadman's Curve and Back' by Passmore.
Also, years ago I got a two volume set from that guy in Australia that writes all the surf books. Ya just gotta look.

It's a good book and it feels very honest. It's not a whitewash but it's very respectful at the same time. One of the better on the road books you can read.

An excellent and loving look at the final decade plus of Jan and Dean with eye opening rememberence of Randall K and other road band beachboys during their time with J&D.   I've read a lot of BB books..most of them.  This is a must read.  Bob Greene is an excellent journalist and writer who actually toured with J&D and payed his own expenses..and played and sang....and experienced the whole thing from the insde....from cheap breakfast bars to camaraderie in hotel rooms, and preshow scenes as they landed in town after town, county fairs, casinos, private parties and so on.  And it is a very touching portrait of the later day relationship of J&D as Jan struggled mightily to continue and Dean quietly saw to some of his needs.  Warts and all, yet very sweet.

Seriously.  Give it a read.
