Why is the tracklisting on the cover of almost every pre (and some post)-Pet Sounds album out of order?

Probably

1. To highlight the hit singles on the record.

2. They switched the order of the songs around to make the arrangement of the text more pleasing to the eye.

On our way through this "backstage" maze, Bruce joined up with the group and said hello, singing "It Never Rains in Southern California" and joking with some of the older ladies. I'm not sure if they knew he was a Beach Boy or simply an enthusiastic elderly gay gentleman.

I don't know, but I've always assumed it's because it was a busy business and the covers were printed before the actual album was pressed, so they didn't know the running order of the tracks. But seriously, it would be nice to hear the real reason.

It was a very common convention, not just with the Beach Boys. I always assumed that it was someone's job at the record companies to listen to the record, guess which songs would become most popular/familiar, and then list them in roughly in descending order of anticipated popularity/familiarity (with symmetry of typesetting also a consideration). Obviously sometimes they would get it wrong and one of the songs near the end of the list might become a hit.

I have no idea how I found this artist but I love how they sampled the BB's!

What is the band's all time best selling album? I'm taking a shot in the dark and saying it's either Pet Sounds, Endless Summer, or Sounds of Summer, but I'm having a hard time finding accurate sales figures.
Several compilations have gone triple platinum. The latest figures I can find have 'Best of the Beach Boys Vol 1' having sold 3.5 million units. SOS would be close, as would Endless Summer

I'm sure this information is already here somewhere on this site, but all the search terms I've thought of are so common that I get thousands of results.
So, regarding the 'Good Vibrations' verse vocals. Am I right that it's Carl with Brian doing the "I hear the sound of a" and "when I look"?
If so, does anyone know if there were two separate entire vocal tracks, one Brian and one Carl that were then cut and spliced together? Or did they record it from the start with the intention of having this interplay and recorded it that way, with Brian only singing those bits? If the latter, did they record it simultaneously, or did one record first then the other on top of the first?

Yes, that's Brian doing a punch-in. On the 2nd, and still excellent, Smile CD boot (from 1989, I think), there's a Carl lead with a conspicuously Brian-shaped hole. Brian did that because Carl couldn't hit the note back then.

Really? I just thought Brian preferred his voice there for one reason or another.  Carl managed to hit the note not long after on the Hawaii tapes for instance, right?

I can't make out the Mother May I lyrics, can someone please help me out?

Mother May I

Mother may I take a teeny step toward love
Mother may I gamble with the stars above
I know I will find my little turtle dove

Yes, you may now better that you make that start, oh yeah
Hope some girl don't come along and break your heart, oh yeah
If you find one pray that you will never part

Mother may I take a baby step and see
I won't fuss now as long as she'll be kind to me
Mother may I take a giant step real slow
I'll be careful, I've only got one step to go
I'm not worried, she loves me and I love her so

Good try, you can now, it's better that you follow one, oh yeah
I'll be happy as long as you're not on the run, run, run
Take your step, but remember what I told you son
Take your step, but remember what I told you son
Take your step, but remember what I told you son, oh oh yeah
Take your step, but remember what I told you son

Mother may I gamble with the stars above?
I know I will find my little turtle dove

Yes you may now better that you make that *?* (start?)
Hope some girl don't come along and break your heart.

Mother may I take a baby step and see?
I won't *?* now as long as she'll be kind to me. - not sure about she'll/ you'll
Mother may I take a giant step real slow?
I'll be careful; I've only got *?* one step to go.
I'm not worried; she loves me and I love her so.

*Huh?* better that you follow one.
I'll be happy as long as you're not on the run.
Take your step but remember what I told you, son.

What a waste of a lovely vocal from Brian.

Thanks, Emily. Smiley

I think it is I've only got one step to go (even though it sounds like 'til)

It also sounds like "I won't budge now as long...".

I think Brian's proper sung vocal parts on this song are *stellar*... I wonder if the original multi-tracks exist for this song, and if so, if a mix could be made which omits the shrieking "mother" character, and just has instrumental sections during those times. That would make the track far more listenable/tolerable!  Smiley

Not heard about Brian's involvement in this single Colpix 721 by Shelly Fabares before...

Football Season's Over / He Don't Love Me...

Refer to comments as in the link... Brian produced the track for the b-side, Jan Berry produced the vocals...?!

Marilyn confirmed the Honey sing back up...? Brian had a falling out with Lou Adler...?

Can anyone add any comments to this...?

Dude's also claiming Brian wrote the "backing track" too. His source ? "It's my educated guess..." - well sh*t, who am I to argue with such cast-iron proof. ? Grin

Has there ever been a concert that Mike wasn't able to perform at? They've done over 5,000 shows, I imagine he'd maybe get sick or something at least once.
