Just rewatched the video for this...with all the misguided attempts to update the BBs' material in the '90s, how did this one turn out so awesome? What a fantastic performance, and I even like Mike Love's new verse.

I was still in school when this came out and I remember some idiot in my class insisting that the lyrics were 'and she'll have fun, fun, fun 'till her daddy takes the tea-bag away'!! PS - Adam, I got Long Promised Road - Songs of Dennis and Carl Wilson Live through last week and it's awesome! Sorry if I seemed a bit snippy in my email

I'm torn. It's better than much of Stars and Stripes, but that's certainly not hard, is it?
I think the pub-rock arrangement does much of the work - freshens the song without making it sound wildly different.
The Boys are produced into mush, though.

Yeah, it really does work more on Status Quo's terms than the BBs'. This is true.

It actually plays ok as a record but it's kind of sad that it was the Beach Boys last real single.

It's an interesting cover, to say the least. Not exactly a memorable one. Kind of cool that the Beach Boys were involved.

It has more ambition that S&S, definitely. And it definitely hits the same vein that Brian would use in the Brian Setzer collaboration three or so years later.

This three song disc (original, not cd-r) is part of what I'm selling off (liquidating from below). It's a legit release so I can post this here. $25 plus postage in case anyone is interested. Overpriced for a 3 song cd? Yes. Is it what I paid 13 years ago? Yes. email if interested. glarson432@aol.com i know that some of you know about the Beach Boys t-shirts I've made in the past. I will be 'liquidating' what I have left very soon. Don't change that dial. Greg
