after hearing about how this is probably the worst early Beach Boys album (and keeping in mind my own indifference about their car songs in general), i was shocked by how much i enjoyed this record. surprisingly, the new stuff is the best stuff there ("ballad of ole betsy!" "car crazy cutie!"), the vocal arrangements are dependably fantastic, and i can't believe they turned this thing around fast enough for it to be released a MONTH after Surfer Girl. and a couple of the four re-used songs were re-recorded and/or edited! what!!

this isn't their best early record by any means, but i think it might be their most consistent. even the car-themed redo of "full of spring" is solid.

I agree, though I have to admit I initially had some difficulties relating to the album's subject matter as I don't even have a driver's licence.

"Cherry Cherry Coupe" is in this person's humble estimation one of the early BB's greatest album cuts.

I had the privledge of seeing & hearing them do "CCC" LIVE this past summer in Grand Island, NE.  Wonder how many times they've ever done that one?

Little Deuce Coupe IS awesome! I'm glad you wrote this. "Betsy" is my favorite cut. I also love in "custom machine" right after make says "step on the gas, she goes.." and brian leads the guys in the "wahhh-ah-ahhh" line. WOW.

Agreed ! LOVE that song.
I like th LDC-album very much. Although I don't like the idea of re-using songs that were already released, all in all it's a very good album and shows the young Beach Boys at their peak, before the became much more sophisticated.

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Little Deuce Coupe is the most rockin' album Brian ever did. Not a single weak cut on it. I love it.

"Betsy" was the best song, to me, in the casino concert I saw last March,  Was it the best or was it was because it was the first time I heard it live?  I can't say for sure.

But, goshdarn, it was good!
