Just heard this one on you tube.....

IF there was a 50 anniversary collection and IF the remaining BB's wanted to do something together...
this would make a interesting cornerstone to the project.. ( I'm speaking of this song with BB vocals)

opinions...?

put 'Tidal wave and pet sounds' into the you tube search to find ...

I like it, but I think that it would sound significantly different with the 2011 Beach Boys' vocals.

I like it too, very well done.  Granted, there's no way the song would have had a beach/surfing theme had Brian completed it for Pet Sounds, but the melody and arrangement are superb.

Eric is right though, I don't know if it would work with 70-year-olds singing it, even if those 70-year-olds are the remaining Beach Boys.

guess a lot would depend on who is allowed to sing.. both Mike and Brian's band have very capable singers to fill in the sound.
as for the content, true it wouldn't have had a surf theme if it was part of Pet Sounds, but that was '66 not '09.

WOW.  I never was able to imagine this song even having a melody line, but this sounds perfect!

Somebody did this with "Let's Go Away", too, on a fan tribute album in the mid-nineties (same one that had the classic "Landy, He Needs Me".

Isn't the melody supposed to be more in the ballpark with "Had To Phone Ya"?

why?
In the world of Brian Wilson, taking a portion of a song and using i in a unrelated place is commonplace...
the Steinberg Melody fits great...  why not use it.

Are you suggesting that the Beach Boys use Lane Steinberg's melody and put it on a commercially-released album?

That's probably illegal.
