They will be showing a new special on "Summer of Evil" which has to do with the Manson family. Greta van Sustern says "The Beach Boys played a prominent role ...................". We all know what "role" that was, but it will be interesting to see how they are portrayed in this new special. It's been 40 years this coming weekend since the Manson murder spree took place. Talk about a "reunion"!!!?HuhHuh

I can't believe they've decided to let Squeaky out of jail!
http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/08/05/squeaky.fromme.release/index.html
And can you believe the date that they're doing it???
"According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Fromme, now 60, is set to be released on parole August 16."
Talk about creepy...  Why not let her out this weekend, on the 40th. anniversary???

What have The Beach Boys got to do with this, it was all Dennis.

The other day I was talking about Dennis's role in the Manson case with my friend and she put it in a new light for me, Dennis actually was one of the reasons Manson was so bitter towards rich/famous people. Maybe he did play a prominent role  Huh

I think Dennis more than "paid his dues" with the Manson family. I think he was haunted by them the rest of his life. Plus the fact they financially did the dirty deed on him. Dennis wanted him to record, but the rest of the band didn't. Jon? Ed?

Yeah, funny since Brian and Carl produced sessions for him at the Bellagio house.

My source is impeccable. You've seen him around here. Andrew Doe has it on his website. Check the "unreleased albums" page and scroll down a bit to "Untitled Charles Manson album".

Why? Are you against people who serve their time being allowed to once again walk freely? BTW, she was not involved with the murders, and was convicted of pointing an unloaded gun at dipshit Ford.

She was one of Charlies first "girls" and was basically assigned the role of "top girl", dorm mother, or however you want to say it. He put her in charge of all the girls. She was the female alpha dog.
Just because she didn't go on the 2 murder runs, doesn''t mean she was any less inocent. She just wasn't at the right place at the right time.

From what I remember, it was both Dennis and Brian that were haunted by Manson, as they were most involved with his hoped for musical career. The country is still fascinated by this man who wanted the ultimate revenge for being rejected. Just like those women the other night in Pittsburgh at the fitness center, the innocents were slaughtered. I am very concerned about Greta Van S's program tonight as she is a deep digger, much more than your run of the mill network reporter. I know first hand this lady gets on the scene and has tremendous sources. In this day and age of murderers gone wild, I'm afraid The Beach Boys may take a big hit on the program tonight. What's it called, The Summer of Evil or something like that. I just hope it won't be too schocking to viewers who may say to themselves, "No way!" Really?!

That's not true. Dennis has taken all the heat, and its true he introduced this element to the others, but there was some involvement by at least three other BB's with the family.

Charlie was p.o'd at all types of people, rich or poor. He was p.o'd at life, Dennis didn't give him any reason to be bitter at anyone but himself. Come on!!! Look at the guy and his lifestyle!!!! He lived out of dumpsters of his own accord---no one to blame but himself.

Yeah I totally agree. Manson was just a nutcase in general. I dont think Dennis made Manson's "hate" for people any worse then what it was.

Donna K and LSG have it right:  No one "hurt" Manson or "made him bitter."  Not Dennis, not Brian.  He was/is a true psychopath.  They are born that way and their brains are actually wired differently than other humans.  (See the recent "Columbine" book for a good summary of the latest findings).  They lack any empathy or compassion whatsoever; they hold all life forms in withering contempt; everyone is a mark, a victim, or potential prey.  This of course does not excuse those others in his Family who gave up their free will to do his twisted bidding.

But reliable sources say that, psycho or no, Manson had some talent.  Besides the BB, Neil Young was impressed with Manson briefly too.  The weirdness of it all, of course, is that both things could be true: a talented psycho.

I think on the whole, it was pretty interesting. It was great to see those brief home movies of Dennis, and Gregg looks good! Gregg did a great job of explaining Dennis' "role" in the whole scenerio.

All in all, Manson has always been a self-serving creep.

I thought it was a pretty standard glance at the whole Manson saga, but man the Dennis home movies were great.  I believe I saw a thank you to Jon Stebbins in the credits as well.
