All I can say is that, almost 50 years later, David's guitar takes those songs to a new level. Thanks, Jon.

Nice!!!! Can you imagine Al and David both in the band in the 70's? 409 sounds good but just kinda, plain out weird without Mike. I think that says a lot in his favor

I actually prefer to hear Al singing lead on those songs rather than Mike. (shh... don't tell Mike. LOL) No nasal vocals.LOL And Al has aged the best out of all The Beach Boys, in my opinion. His voice still sounds like it did in the mid 60's! I have told Trish Campo about that and she agrees too.

Blows me away how good Al sounds these days! He really just has (and has always had) a wonderful, full bodied voice with great high, mid, and low ranges all in one! But alas we disagree about Mike! Such a rare thing on this board!

STE asks: "Do we know if Al played songs from his new album?"
hobielang (Susan from the Shut Down Vol. 2 board) posted on the PSML:
"...It was an hour and 3/4 GH > show, with a few cuts from the album (Drivin' and Postcards), and a > couple of non-BB songs (Runaway comes to mind.)...
Hope this helps.

Why didn't David get his own mike? And how he plays the guitar is really cool. Makes it a bit sad though, that Carl stopped playing solo guitar in the mid 80ies. The highlight is still that Richie and Eddie look like 20 years ago. BTW Every "Beach Boys band" do now the car medley.

He played most of the leads in concert right up through the end. He gave a couple to Foskett, like Surfin' Safafri and Barbara Ann, but started doing them again once Jeff left.

Did Al show up on "Good Morning America" that day? I watched from about 7:15 on, but seemed to have missed him. Christina

David really is a fabulous guitarist. Very creative even within the restrictions of the kind of music he's playing in these clips.
