I didn't see the Grammys but I heard his appearance didn't go well.

I didn't have particularly high hopes for the Grammy performance. I think Sly Stone is a spent force.

Mike Lovestein,
Thanks for posting the article. Since seeing Sly on the Grammys, I'm a little obssessed with him right now, and this article was welcomed...

"He was so creative, one of the most talented guys I've ever met," said R&B great Bobby Womack. "It was inspirational being around him. He made some great music. He just wasn't happy in his personal life. He got to the point he wouldn't even listen to his own stuff. That's paranoia ... "

I can't stand to listen to my own music, either. Isn't that kind of common, though? (I mean not wanting to listen to your own music, as opposed to nobody wanting to listen to my music, which nobody does anyway.) (But then, I am deeply paranoid ...)

I think so, I'm sure so. I just read the following from Tony Martin sometimes of Black Sabbath. He's only "Paranoid" by band association:

Do you like the sound of your own voice? If you record it onto tape does it sound good??Mm! I would wager the answer to be no. I don’t listen to my own stuff at all really, I keep thinking, .. why did I sing that

"He's my idol; forget all that peer stuff," [George] Clinton said. "I heard 'Stand!,' and it was like: Man , forget it! That band was perfect. And Sly was like all the Beatles and all of Motown in one. He was the baddest thing around. What he don't realize is that him making music now would still be the baddest. Just get that band back together and do whatever it is that he do."

So true.
