Not fond of the grafted on intro (assumption, here); it's pretentious.

It sounds like a different vocal take than the one I have heard in the past. I agree about the intro, even if it isn't grafted on, I always liked the way the song started originally, with the Rhythm King.

I can also hear some sort of very odd synthesizer in here, playing single notes, going from left to right, which I never heard before...

Is this a new (unheard/different) take of the song?

it's pretentious.

That's how I feel about 85% of Dennis' ballads.

It sounds strange in a way very similar to the new Break Away mix on The Warmth of the Sun. Perhaps I'm going to get used to it.

And remember -- the lyrics will always be something like:

-----

I love you
And my love for you
Is my love
Forever my love

So deep inside me welling up
My love for you inside me
So deep inside oh

I love you

-----

The second stanza there would be the impossibly huge buildup, with strings, choir and drums.

It would then all die down to just the voice and piano for the final, choked line.

Master wordsmith, Denny was not.

I was thinking that maybe Dennis recorded a new vocal while the song was still considered to be on a Beach Boys-album. You know, just to let it differ from the Dennis single

I was listening to this after i  Smokin the other day and I just loved how much of a wall of sound he got for that tune....sure, the guitar sounds like it's doing much of the same, but it works with the other strings and percussion

It never occured to me that that lyric could be as mundane as "big ol' tree". I
always thought it was "big Oak tree" but I guess that would be equally improbable,
if slightly more literate. Roll Eyes

Everything in my original post here was wrong. I had heard it at a very low volume and jumped
to hasty conclusions. My bad. Tongue

That would be something to see right. Doubt he knows about it though.

Thought I heard Carl too

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

The 2CD Dennis Wilson bootleg i have from years ago (1990s) lists 'Lady' as a demo. [Correction: the bootleg that I DON'T have.]

This version is slightly different.

Maybe all the versions we've heard over the years have been the 'demo' and just assumed it's the same.

Can anyone compare this version to the actual single released in 1970?

Or could it just be that we're hearing, for the first time (and albeit remixed) a clean copy of the track ?
