Large studio speakers or in the car. I've got an outright good stereo system in regard to the latter.

Sennheiser HD 595 headphones (on Amazon for $150 used) - CMoy headphone amp ($60) - Download 24-bit version on hdtracks.com ($18) - Burn audio-only DVD with DVD2One - play with DVD player, with the CMoy plugged in to the analog audio output of the DVD player.

This is about the cheapest audiophile setup I can imagine.  The album sounds incredible with this setup.  I think it was mixed with headphones in mind, since so many listeners today use iPhones and iPods.

This is kind of a strange album to listen in that 'state of mind'. Tried it more than once....  Smiley

(and...can't resist to share...my new favorite combo - tested - is SMiLE in your favorite configuration when you start to get high, and then come down listening to Friends. It is the most blissful thing ever).

This really is an album meant for car listening. Most of my car trips while I was in New Jersey over the summer were spent with TWGMTR in the CD player.

I agree entirely! This was a mainstay through both my trips to northeastern PA this summer, along with Lucky Old Sun.
Of course there was also Taking Back Sunday and a couple other non-Beach Boyish artists. But, hey, my musical musings are probably an aquired taste for most.  Grin

We play it in our minivan all the time. All my 5 and 3 year want to hear is the "beach boys" and by that they mean TWGMTR. Funny enough the three songs that they always ask me to repeat are TPLOBAS, Shelter and Daybreak - my 3 least favorite tracks on the album! But all in all it gives me a tremendous amount of joy to know that they're growing up with not only the Beach Boys, but a NEW Beach Boys album! good stuff... now if they'd only ask me to repeat From Here to Back Again....
