a non-request bootleg question

Not requesting or anything, so calm down Mods 

I hear tales of the bootlegs we pretend not to know about being made from stolen tapes/acetates, and given that there are heaps of the things, are there serious holes in the vaults when it comes to things like Smile material or earlier?  this probably has been covered before, but i couldn't find anything and it just sprang to mind when i read about the DWB masters...

There's stuff missing. I may stand corrected on this but I think the multitracks of the entire Surfer Girl and LDC albums are MIA.

well that's worrying  i was wondering because it could be a reason (along with the obvious ones, like Brian) that we haven't got a Smile boxset yet - there's hours out there, and it can't be all copies of the tapes, right? a worrying thought for the common-or-garden smile obsessive...
