The Beach Boys' 1993 European tour...

Hi- AGD and I are compiling 1993 for Bellagio and I am really unsure about all the dates and venues of the European tour-anyone have the dates or venues? I have the list from BB Fun-but I think there were some changes (plus BB Fun never listed venues). Thanks
The list I have (BB Fun suggests that the tour started July 6-so maybe the first 7 days were canceled? Did they play Amsterdam?)
May 31-July 6 1993-Concerts: Amsterdam (31, 1) Rotterdam (2), Amsterdam (3) Kisa, Sweden (5) Helsinki, Finland (6) Middlefart Festival, Arhus, Denmark (12) Sportshalle, Hamburg, Germany (13) Frankshalle, Nuremberg, Germany (15) Stuttgart, Germany (16) Munich, Germany (17) Neusiedler, Austria (18) Lorelei, Germany (19) Aschaffenburg, Germany (20) Dusseldorf, Germany (21) Hanover, Germany (23) Arena, Sheffield, England (25) G-Mex, Manchester, England (26) NEC, Birmingham (27) Wembley Arena, London (29, 30), Lysekil, Sweden (7/3) Skien, Norway (4) Sweden (6)

While on the topic of European tours can I just ask when was the last time The Beach Boys came to Ireland. I did a feature on Brian in college today and she told me she read about The Beach Boys coming a few years ago??

Wow, I'm surprised that Amsterdam (3 times!!) and Rotterdam are mentioned, because I'm pretty sure these didn't happen (last BB-show in Holland I know of was The Hague 1980).
1993, a Beach Boys-year I won't easily forget. My only attempt to attend a BB-show - ever. I heard about a few concerts in Germany early '93. Decided to go to the one in Düsseldorf. Didn't have a driver's licence yet, so a friend of mine also came along. Bought the tickets by calling a local agent overthere (no internet for me at the time), international banktransfer (no PayPal). In short: a lot of work, but well worth it as I got my tickets throught the mail in time.
Left early that day (June 21st) and after a 250km-drive we arrived in the afternoon, so we decided to go explore the territory... and when we arrived at the Philipshalle... we found out the concert was CANCELLED!!!
Was I pissed.
Did manage to get a concert poster though (they really felt sorry for me... ). Even found the local agent in the center of the city and got the money back for the tickets. But still this was a huge disappointment for me. Even more when I found out that the Lorelei concert was fantastic. I also think Frankfurt did occur (would have been my 2nd choice, should've been my first)
Never tried to visit another one. Simply didn't want to go to through all the hassle again, unless they would visit Holland again... which they never did...
Enough grief for now.
Ian, I think you can savely assume that no Amsterdam or Rotterdam concert became reality.
And Philipshalle Düsseldorf on Monday June 21st 1993 (20:00 PM) was cancelled.
As for the other German concerts, I'm sure our fellow German fans have more - if not all - information you need.
O, and btw, a special guest was announced on the poster, no clue which one.

That´s the original tour schedule for the German dates:
After a reschedule the Aschaffenburg concert was played on June 22 (instead of June 9), others were postponed and then totally cancelled (Düsseldorf & Hannover):

15. June: Nürnberg, Frankenhalle
16. June: Stuttgart, Schleyerhalle
17. June: München, Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle
18. June: Neusiedler See, Strandbad (Austria)
19. June: Loreley, Freilichtbühne
21. June: Düsseldorf, Philipshalle (cancelled)
22. June: Aschaffenburg, Unterfrankenhalle
23. June: Hannover (cancelled)

In 1994 a friend and I did a football tour of Europe, took in matches in the UK, France, Spain, Turkey and Italy. When in Italy we had tickets for the Inter Milan V AC Milan derby. We spent the morning killing time wandering around Milan, on the way to the game we were walking through a large park and there were some marquee stalls set up selling food and other stuff, one of the marquees was selling CDs and I started looking through the "B" section as we all do and I came across the Nassau 74 show, I pulled it out and hung on to it, the guy running the stall saw I had a Beach Boys CD so he said he had something else and reached under the table and pulled out a multi CD box set of the 93 Euro tour. From memory I think was 4CDs and the track listing was pretty much oldies and the tracks were listed as from various shows on the Euro tour. It was very professionally packaged, good quality presentation, no idea if it was SBD or AUD and it was expensive. Being an Aussie on a budget and with the very expensive UK leg of the tour still to come I restricted my spending and only purchased the Nassau 74 CD. I held that 93 Euro tour CD in my fingers so i know it existed yet no matter how much I've searched and searched bootleg sites since then I've never come across or heard of that bootleg CD.

Interesting.
Though I have no idea whether or not the concerts actually took place, I can at least contribute with this:
June 3: I highly doubt that Kisa was where they played/were supposed to play since Kisa is a village in the middle of nowhere, population <4000
June 6: Aarhus, with to a's, would be the correct spelling I believe

I think you saw the Best Vibrations box set (2CD's). Can't find a picture right away (although I have a cdr-copy of it somewhere I think), but try this link for more info:

Yes, it was at "Kaivopuisto" (it translates as "wells park"), a beautiful park by the Baltic sea.

I snooped around and downloaded "Best Vibrations" - have been listening to the German show for a few days now and this show really does sum up what I find so exciting and so frustrating about the later era Beach Boys.
As a live band they could still really deliver, the stand out tracks for me are Cottonfields, I Can Hear Music, Then I Kissed Her, Hushabye, California Dreamin', GOK and a really interesting version of Good Vibrations heavy with the flute ... but ... at times the song selection is poor, nay abysmal, overly reliant on unnecessary covers such as Under The Boardwalk, Come Go With Me and Wipeout (blah! crap white rap) and some insipid songs/performances such as Hot Fun In The Summertime (excrutaitingly bad) and Make It Big (why???).
I find myself actually enjoying Summer In Paradise (except the lyrics are at times rancid) and Kokomo (thank goodness for Carl's vocal contribution). The medly of car and surf hits (including covers) is good.
I know the Beach Boys had a tendancy to do covers, and at times make them their own songs (I Can Hear Music, Do You Wanna Dance, Then I Kissed Her, Sloop John B) but this set is over 25% covers. With such an impressive catogue of self penned music why 25% covers??
All in all I (for the most part) enjoyed the show ... and that surprised me.

By the fall tour the sets were perfect, but I heard a Euro 1993 show and I must say that they were pretty good. I don't know why but 1993 seems to stand out way above most of the post Dennis years with maybe only the tour in 1988 where they did This Whole World coming close.

In 1993, I went to Wembley more our of a sense of duty than anything, as the 1991 shows were, frankly, dire. Even warned my then-partner that they would be, at best, average and probably poor. So, about seven songs in, when my lower jaw was resting on the floor with amazement, she turns to me and sweetly asks "so when do they start getting bad ?" Truly, they were amazing.

I have the same experience as Andrew. When I saw them in 1989 they were ok but very predictable. In 1993 I wasn't expecting too much and then when Carl sang "I Can Hear Music" for the second song I was floored. By the time "Add Some Music" was played I couldn't beilieve my luck. I thought the oldies band was over for good. Sadly I was wrong.

Don't we, fans, tend to judge a concert based mostly/only on setlists, rather than performance quality? For example, it was good that in 1988 they included This Whole World, but did the performance level match that of, say, 1994? Another example: Don't worry baby was always uncomfortable to hear until Matt Jardine picked that up.

I feel the set reflects the commitment of the performer. I have never heard a short hit only set by any band that beat one where they were obviously trying to stretch. You can pick at it and say one song was better another year, but I judge a concert as a whole.

It's possible that I saw a 1993 concert at Blossom in Ohio. If I did, it really pisses me off! You see, I would have been around only 8 years old at the time, and I remember almost nothing. It seems that I may have missed out on a great setlist/show. I was born right around the "Kokomo years" of bad shirts and Full House. Oh, to be able to go back in time and see/hear Carl sing "Wonderful" as the adult, and educated fan, that I am now. *sigh*

Despite what you've just said, was this the tour they had shitty reviews in the papers? I seem to remember the Guardian or Times reviewer bemoaning the fact that Brian Wilson hardly contributed anything. Of course, he wasn't there...

Bumping this thread!
1993 was the first time I saw the Beach Boys live. An amazing experience!
Years later, I found a photo online taken by a crew member from stage with myself visible in the audience! (next to the fence of course!)
Really cool
