Why did you offer Carnie heroin?

To be serious for a moment....did that really happen?

Gaines I believe mentioned it in his book, which was later capped by Gold for the psuedobiography. It was apparently what led Marilyn to leave. It's one thing to binge on coke, birthday cake, and T-bones, but quite another to offer eight year olds some smack.

That's precisely why I asked.

But, I thought Brian only experimented briefly with heroin in 1975; Marilyn & Brian divorced in 1978.

Well, if Gaines is to be believed, and I kind of do believe him, you gotta recall the Australia incident where Rocky and Stan caught Dennis with heroin that he was presumably sharing with Brian. That was early '78.

I believe that Marilyn confirmed this story in the A & E Bio, citing it as the "last straw" that prompted her to leave.  She said that no matter how much she loved Brian, she had to protect her children.

A part of me believes it; a part of me doesn't want to believe it. I remember the filmed interview with Marilyn, but to use that as the reason - or the final straw - for the divorce....There's something about the timeline that bothers me.

Hello Brian. Good to see you, man. Whom does the song 'My Diane' refer to?

Hello Brian, I have two questions actually. First: What's your favorite Beach Boys album? Second: What was your favorite Beach Boys album yesterday?  Grin

Hey, Brian.  You said Scott Bennett wasn't really talking about you with the "At 25 I turned out the light" lyric, because you were still in pretty good shape at 25.  So when do you think you started going downhill, and when did things really start getting good again?  How do you see it?

Brian's reply: 'It is rather idiosyncratic that you are putting a question before me that alludes to severe psychiatric disorders such as Alzheimer's and to patients who underwent hippocampectomy to prevent epileptic seizures, so, sir, would you be so kind to illuminate your perspective on me a bit more in depth?'

patients who underwent hippocampectomy to prevent epileptic seizures
Ah, good old H.M. I read that he died about a month ago. Sad. But that is WAY off topic!

I'd ask Brian, "in the late 60s and early 70s you wrote several songs with lyrics that seemed to somehow suggest that you looked upon your musical work as more of a 9 to 5 job than you might have done previously, as in 'I Just Got My Pay', 'Games Two Can Play' ('in the morning, I'm the mister businessman') and the early version of 'Add Some Music' ('on the way to work it's with you in your car'), not to mention the famous 'My friend Bob, he has a job' line that Bruce so unforgivenly turned down for 'Deirdre'. So am I right in assuming that you around 1970 began to look at your Beach Boys work as a job?"

Or maybe I'd ask something else.

My reply to that would be:

'I was merely saying that it is my impression that you seem to change you mind more often than the average human being. I do not wish to be held responsible for any further conclusions that you might draw from this assumption.'

Either that, or:

'Chill, dude.'
