It is quite amazing how far he has come from those days...amazing that he came out alive in the first place.

It's also amazing that there are people who reckon he was better off then...

And there are. Hell, when Brian put weight back on in the 1990's, there were people hanging out with him saying "Wow, I am hanging with Brian Wilson just like in the 1960's. He looks the same.....etc." They were so wrong.

I remember hearing about this in the A&E bio, and also it was touched on in Carlin's bio. Mentioned something about him playing piano in a gay bar.

Yeah Marilyn talked about it in the A&E bio, just before she talked about her and Brian divorcing.

I find it amusing (in a sad way) that this story was used as a lead-in to say that Brian will be back in San Diego, playing at the House of Blues.

I direct you to the 2004 Dutch radio interview and then you tell me who's better off when. Smiley

So of course they give him a few days in the hospital then fly him right to Florida to work on the new album. Wouldn't that have been a time to try another psychiatrist for Brian?

Ypu would think that someone within Brian's orbit of friends and family would have forced him into rehab.  This was the 1970's and 1980's, not the 1920's.  There were plenty of places he could have gone to and specialists in the field, especially in L.A.  I watched the interview with Mike Douglas in 1976 and he was on top of things, might have/probably was still using, but was very different than today.

No new info , in fact it was lifted word for word from the Gaines book.

I read things like this and I think, "That goodness Brian is being controlled now." Seriously, he needs it. Say what you will about Melinda, but Brian is a very sick man-- mentally ill, recovering drug addict, food addict. He can't just be left to his own devices. Control doesn't have to mean Landy, but it has to mean that someone is watching his every move, just to make sure he's okay.

It's weird to see the Love brothers referred to as Stephen and Stanley.
