David sounds fantastic!  He should be in the band full time (and Al too).

I'll concur and say that Dave does sound fantastic... But I've heard boots of him sing it before so I knew that he does a good job... As far as I know that means 4 band members have sung Forever in concert (Dennis, Brian, Carl and Dave)... does anyone know if they are the only members to sing it live?

Saw Carl in 88 do a wonderful version, and I have a video of an Arizona concert with him doing it. He really should have continued to do it. I like Dave's take alot though, he has more of the rough Dennis edge.

Mike seems to suffer from a serious lack of tact, even if he is just trying to be funny. I like Dave's 'rough' treatment of the song, but i can understand why he wasn't given more leads.

But just remember, Pacific Ocean Blue has sold fathoms more than Looking Back With Love, Bambu has been released and Love has 3 or 4 albums worth of material that he can't get released. Plus, he has to wake up everyday and realize he's Mike Love and not a Wilson brother. That's gotta be torture enough for him.

True enough, but remember: while some of us may relish taking potshots at him, he is the Lovester...

First off, how synonymous is his voice with most of our favorite Beach Boy songs?
And second, you have to hand it to him,  keeping the name &  sound out there all these years.

(This is a poor quality scan from years ago, but it captures how those 2 could always overcome things on stage:)

I can't believe you guys are throwing a fit over 'save it, he's not here'...he was obviously joking and even made it apparent that he was right after he said it, followed by praise for the song. you guys are so uptight.

great performance.

Hey, Mike can be a weirdo from time to time, but I don't think he wishes he had been raised by Murry Wilson. That's just nuts.  Smiley

I don't think the joke was that bad. We always say that his audience doesn't care which Beach Boy is on stage, that they just wanna listen to the songs and have a good time. Let him make fun of the fact just like we do.

At the end of the day, Mike was there and co-wrote three great songs with Dennis. That's three more than anyone here, and two more than Brother Brian, if we count 'Little Bird'. Let's cut the Lovester some slack.

Not a memeber, but Stamos has of course done it live numerous times with the group

That was cool . . . Thanks for sharing, Jon.

I think Dave sounds a lot like Dennis there . . . and truth be told, the band did a great job on the harmonies, etc. . . . for a live recording.

I really think Dave and Al should be permanent fixtures in the touring band.

He did mention Dennis as his cousin, which is somthing he usually seems to reserve for Brian. He did praise the song as well, so I guess it wasn't all bad!

Yeah, seriously what the hell was with that comment?

I thought it was a fairly innocent joke. Just because someone's dead doesn't mean you have to be 100% serious about him all the time.

Love told David the same thing after hearing him sing it for the first time...and he said it again right after this performance, too.

Actually, you are on to something.  David and Mike were joking around with each other in the green room before they went on and if you saw what David did to Mike's tea cup, you'd know that Mike was right-on when he called him immature!  ;-)

But seriously, for Mike to get one in on him and Dennis in the same sentence was something that was actually a little sentimental for David...he said afterwards THAT show was the one that felt the most like the old days because of that loose brotherly banter...and in the old days, Dennis would have been giving and getting with the best of them.

I'm not surprised...David really captured Dennis' raw emotion in that performance.  Best version I've heard (aside from the original, of course).

Dave should record his own version of Forever - after what he did with You And I (and with only GUITARS and a voice) he could work wonders on that one. I also wish that he did the vocal on Holy Man but that's just me.
