Anyone Know Ukuleles?

I've been thinking about getting a ukulele.  Can anyone give any advice on what to get for a beginner's instrument and how to learn how to play?  I don't want to spend more than $30, if possible, but don't want something that sounds terrible or is hard to play.  I'd also like to know about the different types of ukuleles.  There are sopranos (the traditional one, and easiest and cheapest to get), the concert, the tenor, and the baritone.  Does anyone here play any of the types besides soprano, and why do you like it?
