I always thought that the whole Holland project could've been so much more of a success if only the Boys (and especially Carl) would've approved of the fairy tale. To me it's great even in its released 7" form, but it could have been even better (and possibly a tad bit less wacky) if it would have been the centerpiece of the whole record, completed and produced by Brian Wilson. Dom Dom Kingdom, that's one of the greatest musical moments in the group's seventies recording career, hands down. Brian still was capable of "delivering the goods", even though he apparently had something else in his mind than updating the group's overall sound to the slack rock sound of The Band.

Agreed.. 3 minutes into "I'm The Pied Piper."  I listen to the fairytale music on loop every now and then.. it leaves you wanting more!

I wonder how the casual fans and laymen looked at this documentary. It probably was hardly interesting for them at all. And I don't think that they really learned anything new about The Beach Boys apart from maybe the fact that they actually did anything between "Good Vibrations" and "Kokomo"...

Agreed. Esp. with a period such as this, one must make a real effort to elucidate and explain. Diehards will enjoy that too.
