To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Very, very good. He seems to have been very relaxed with Don Was and really opened up.

I'm not aware of much of their stuff that's been booted though... is there a lost of the stuff they did together on the net anywhere?

Wow, that's probably the best latter day Brian interview I've read.  Its so rare now to hear him talk at length about things and give thoughtful answers like he did here.

Thanks for sharing!

He was a lot more articulate and less of a zombie back then, for sure.

I remember reading that when it first came out in 1995.  It was in "Interview" magazine.  It was a very exciting time for BB followers...Mike and Brian writing a new album...Don Was producing it...they were all in the studio.  When I re-read the interview now, I just get sad...

Brian sounded really happy with the songs they did for that ill-fated Beach Boys' project. Hey Brian, I'll bet Mike and Don are still available. Had to phone ya, had to phone ya just to talk to you...

I would love Brian to read what he said back then. It may break through the wall.  Btw is it just me or do you think Audree and Carl's death made him even more introverted or less connected?

I think when Carl died, the last sign of the true Brian did.

I think so too. Ever since then, he's looked shell-shocked.

I'm sure Brian was/is grieving the loss of a brother, first and foremost. But, in all the interviews that I've seen, Brian has mentioned that he lost a Beach Boy, a great singer; "he was our main man" I believe he said.

I wonder if Brian has problems accepting the end of The Beach Boys, The Beach Boys as he knew them, as HIS group....

The Norbit lines were quite possibly my favorite BW interview lines ever, or at least right up there with some of the greats (like the Mike Douglas show when he says mantras aren't to be revealed, especially on TV ... then immediately tells his).
