I just saw an ad for an upcoming Mike/Bruce show, and it was listed as The Beach Boys Band.

is this a new development? was Mike forced to change the name for some reason?

Their official web page has used that title for years.

http://www.beachboysband.com/

A way to keep the touring band and the now dormant recording band separate I guess.

I think that website was meant for the backup members of the Beach Boys, not really the Beach Boys as a touring entity.

Which show was advertised as "The Beach Boys Band"?  I'd really be interested in seeing the ad.  It is a new year, and perhaps there were some changes in the touring license when it was renewed?

Nah, because why would they have profiles for Mike & Bruce on there, too? And for that matter, why are they advertising the singles boxset?

Of course they're going to have profiles for Mike & Bruce, they are with the touring band.  I don't think it's an "official" website by any means.  I doubt that they would be promoting Chris Farmer's or Adrian Baker's latest releases on any official website.

Another thing to consider: Someone else had already registered beachboys.com.

The reason you're seeing Adrian Baker product promoted on beachboysband.com is because he owns the site.

The ad for this summer's concert in Piteå, Sweden (3rd of July) says "The Beach Boys".

The thread title reminds me of a legendary reader's letter printed in the UK New Musical Express (late '70s I estimate) that became legendary and still is the subject of many in-jokes with people who were NME regulars way back then. A certain mr. Samuel K.B. Ampong out of Thailand (mind, Thailand still was lightyears away then...) wrote in, asking politely 'where is Beatles Band?' and proceeded to speak a sort of proto-Engrish that was great fun in itself.
Evereone believed (as far as I know) that some backwoods inhabitant had finally gained access to a major medium of the day and wanted to know the whereabouts of his favourites.

Later, it turned out that a contributor to the NME, Danny Baker, who reviewed the new singles every week, was in fact that mr. K.B. Ampong.

Well, I guess you had to be there... nevertheless a good joke, wonderfully performed.
