Everybody knows that LIttle Deuce Coupe was a rush-job, issued a mere 3 weeks after Surfer Girl on 21 October and consequently suffering a bit quality-wise(not much to these ears, but with five reissued songs...)
The story is, they were supposed to release three albums in 1963, right? So why didn't they take, I don't know, a month longer? They could have written a few more hot-rod songs and made an excellent album...maybe even included the "car songs" from Shut Down Vol. II, leaving the rest of the good songs from SDV2 for killer inclusion on the Warmth of the sun?

At any rate, wouldn't LDC have sold better if there had been more than three weeks between releases? It just doesn't make any sense as a business decision...unless they had to release it before November.

In my opinion, I think it was specifically for the Christmas market, and therefore had to be in the shops around November. Surfer Girl was too 'summer' to be a big Christmas seller, and it's the first album to move away from surfing songs.

It could have just been to capitalize on the changing teen trends too, and trying to stay up to the moment in teen culture. I've heard an audio clip of Brian from that period saying that whatever the latest trends were, the band were going to make records for that.

Yeah it was simply to get a car-themed BB's LP into the market before Xmas 1963.

They kind of did the same thing in 1964 with The Beach Boys Concert and The Beach Boys Christmas album.
