Speaking for myself, I just think that
You're Welcome
is in a sense a response to , "Thank You". It definitely fits at the end for me, but I guess it could fit anywhere...what a simple and profound song!
"You're Welcome" TO COME. I never viewed it as thank you/you're welcome. It's those two words - TO COME - that hang me up. "You're welcome to come" - where, Brian? Where?
I see where your comming from with that.
Your mix looks like a good listen, I was looking at it closer before thinking about how the songs link together. "Your Welcome" at the start is a nice idea.
It's funny, I've toyed with so many opening songs for my SMiLE mixes, and I can't find any that I like better than "You're Welcome". "Our Prayer" always reminded me of a closing/near the end song, or, if I open with it, I follow with "Good Vibrations". For a long time I used "Look", because I like the opening chords and the way it "unfolds", almost like the sun rising. I also like the "Intro To Heroes And Villains" (the bells and whistles), followed by "Worms" or "Heroes"; that really gets your attention. But I keep coming back to "You're Welcome". I often wondered if it was ever seriously considered for SMiLE or BWPS; Brian actually performed it separately from BWPS at a few shows.

1. Our Prayer/Gee (purple chic)
2. Heroes and Villians (purple chic)
3. Old Master Painter (purple chic)
4. Do You Like Worms? (boxset)
5. Cabinessence (purple chic)
6. Workshop song
7. Wonderful (boxset)
8. Good Vibrations (single)
9. On a Holiday (Purple Chic)
10. Windchimes (purple chic)
12. vegetables (boxset)
13. Fall Breaks and Back to Winter
14. Cool cool water (boxset)
15. In Blue Hawaii (purple chic)
16. Cool cool water (sunflower)
17. Surf's up (71)
Fall Breaks is included as Fire, under the theory that Brian would have wanted his candle (and because I prefer it!)
The two versions of cool cool water with in blue hawaii create almost ten minutes of the most soothing music imaginable...and then the album surf's up, because its my favorite! The rest isn't too exciting, basically, bits and pieces of purple chic rearranged to fit my own day to day fancies.

Don't Back Down, with "I Love To Say Dada" following "Worms", were you continuing the "nautical/sailing" theme, and then landing with "The Old Master Painter/You Are My Sunshine"?
Also, I'm always contemplating ending, like you did, with"Heroes And Villains; it's the perfect review song, tying everything together.

Don't Back Down, I really like your mix; I'd like to post an alternate SMiLE mix, using "Heroes And Villains" as the closer:
1. You're Welcome (to come on the SMiLE trip)
2. Do You Like Worms? (we're off!)
3. I Love To Say Dada (keeping the sailing going)
4. The Old Master Painter/You Are My Sunshine (landing)
5. Cabinessence (I'll give you a home on the range)
6. I Wanna Be Around/Workshop (building the home/barn)
7. Vegetables (cart off and sell my vegetables to pay for the home on the range)
8. "I got a big bag of vegetables" (from Hawthorne - mixed into the end of Vegetables)
9. Holidays (off selling the vegetables)
10. Wind Chimes (resting in the late afternoon)
11. Whispering Winds (mixed into the end of Wind Chimes)
12. Good Vibration (on the WIND that lifts her perfume through the AIR)
13. Look (a continuation of the Good Vibrations riff)
14. With Me Tonight (from Hawthorne; it's now night time)
15. Child Is Father Of The Man (mixed onto the last note of With Me Tonight)
16. Wonderful (farther down the path was a mystery)
17. Mama, Mama, Mama
18. Barnyard (the child wanders down the path to the barnyard)
19. Spanish Guitar snippet (that's the cow kicking over the lamp)
20. Fire
21, Water Chant (taken from Sunflower for the thunder/wind effects)
22. Surf's Up (Intro/Track only)
23. Surf's Up
24. Our Prayer
25. Heroes And Villains Suite (10 minutes long, a review/recap of the SMiLE trip)
26. Boys/Girls (a hidden track - 30 second snippet from Hawthorne)
Note: I love how "Surf's Up" follows the "Water Chant"; it sounds cool, we're still in the night time, and it ties in with the water theme. Also, does anybody see a connection between the barn (and parts of Chicago) burning down and "columnated ruins domino"?

Vegetables (Andreas mix)
What is the Andreas mix?
Thanks for crediting me.
It's actually an edit of 8 mono mixed sections from SOT 17 and one short section from the Smiley Smile version. Nothing is remixed by me, and nothing is cross-faded. It does not resemble the 2004 version.

14. I Wanna Be Around Friday / Friday Night (SOT 16)
15. Vega-Tables (personal mono edit, from SOT 17 mono mix attempts and a short part from the Smiley version)

(Outtakes)
17. You're Welcome (Smiley Smile / Wild Honey twofer)

22. Been Way Too Long (Gema Smile)

Thanks for the kind words
Looking at your new mix: I can't believe I forgot Vegetables and Wind Chimes! haha Maybe I'll have to go back and make an edit.
Yeah I wasn't sure where to put Heroes and Villains even though it's at the beginning of BWPS, but then I thought about the ideas from the board about it being a good review as you point out.

I assume the 'spanish guitar' snippet you refer to is the little piece that sounds like it came out of the movie Dr. Zhivago? What's the name of that instrument again, a balilika or something? That's what that piece always reminded me of.
I do wonder when that was done. You can hear Brian in the studio counting, so he was one of the musicians.
Was there ever a session sheet found for 'Little Red Book'? That, along with the Spanish Guitar piece, could be seen as Brian starting to 'strip down' the music.

I don't have the exact running order for mine down pat yet, but my version has the first section of Heroes, up untill "dude'll do". Then it goes into Great Shape/Barnyard, then a snippit of an outtake of CabinEssence as an "intro" for Heroes(reprise), which contains the Cantina verse and concludes with the False Barnyard fade out.

I'm working on a "humor" section that would kind of look like this:
1. Vegatables(cornocopia version)
2. Vegatables Promo
3. He Gives Speeches(two minute edit)
4. With Me Tonight(uptempo version with Mike singing)
5. Wonderful(rock with me henry version)*

I like it, Glenn. Very similar to BWPS, with "Surf's Up" and "Good Vibrations" flip-flopped; but I agree with the change. I'm curious if you ever experimented with flip-flopping "Our Prayer" and "You're Welcome"?

I don't find With Me Tonight particularly humorous . . . nor He Gives Speeches! I'd edit in the Chicago taxidriver, the party reel "fall into the piano" bit, and the Wonderful tag "mama mama mama" bit.

Are you talking about that "H&V" bit with Mike ranting about how badly "H&V" bombed? Or something else? All of this smog has my mind so muddled that I can't figure anything out. I'm about to toss my computer out of my bedroom window, this smog has me so irate.

Question, for nobody in particular: What is the best Dada approach? I like both "part 1" and "part 2", but I don't favor one over the other. They both have parts I like, but not one more so than the other. Also, where does the "water chant" go? Do I put it at the start as an intro? Do I stick it somewhere in the middle to "bridge" the two parts?
