Just for the fun of it....I'm enjoying some of the recent SMiLE discussion....had some time off from work....and would enjoy seeing others' personal SMiLE mixes....here's one I came up with....

The Beach Boys - SMiLE

1. You're Welcome
2. Do You Dig Worms?
3. Cabinessence
4. I Wanna Be Around/Workshop
5. Vegetables
6. "I got a big bag of vegetables" (from Hawthorne - mixed into the end of Vegetables)
7. Holiday
8. Wind Chimes
9. Whispering Winds (mixed into the end of Wind Chimes)
10. Good Vibrations
11. Look
12. Wonderful
13. Mama, Mama, Mama
14. Barnyard
15. The Old Master Painter/You Are My Sunshine
16. Mrs. O'Leary's Cow
17. Water Chant (taken from Sunflower for the thunder/wind effects)
18. I Love To Say Dada
19. Spanish Guitar snippet (where is it from?)
20. Heroes And Villains Suite ( a review of the first 19 songs)
21. With Me Tonight (from Hawthorne)
22. Child Is Father Of The Man (mixed onto the last note of With Me Tonight)
23. Our Prayer
24. Surf's Up (Intro/Track Only)
25. Surf's Up
26. Boys/Girls (Hidden Track - 30 second snippet taken from Hawthorne)

I've never made my own cause there's so many out there already.

This is my favoroite boot.

Edit: I took this boot info down, thought it may be in breach of the "rules" hope it didn't upset anyone.

Last mix I had went something like this:
1. Heroes and Villains (Our Prayer/Gee/Heroes)
2. Old Master Painter/You are my Sunshine
3. Do You Like Worms?
4. Wonderful
5. Child is Father of the Man
6. Cabinessence
7. Good Vibrations
8. Wind Chimes
9. Vegetables
10. The Elements (Fire intro-Fire/I Wanna be Around-Workshop/Hollidays tag/I Love to say Da-Da-Water chant)
11. Surf's Up

If I ever make another one, like to switch some stuff around so that Good Vibrations is on side 1 and Child begins side 2. That way, you can say that Child begins and ends side 2 (since Brian is playing a version of the chorus at the end of Surf's Up)

Yes, "Good Vibrations" is such a wild card. I've already started "Our Prayer" followed by "Good Vibrations"; I liked the transition. "Good Vibrations" always sounded better, to me anyway, earlier than later.

Our prayer
H & V
Barnyard
Do You Like Worms?
OMP/YAMS
He Give Speeches
Wonderful
Cabinessence
Look
Child
Tones
H&V Intro
Mrs. O'Leary's Cow
I Wanna Be Around/Woodshop
Wind Chimes
Vege-tables
Holidays
Surf's Up
You're Welcome

The Holidays Ending goes fits kind of nicely into the beginning of Surf's Up. Also, the 'Won-won' at the end of 'Wonderful' segues beautifully into the 'Boing-boing' of Cabinessence. Although 'Tones' isn't officially any part of SMiLE, it still is kind of neat to toss it in there, mainly because it's SMiLE era and it sounds like it fits right in.

"Tones" - to include or not to include? DAMAGED had it on his....It comes and goes with me. Oh, yes, it fits, a number of places, actually. "Tones" always reminded me of a ship slowly coming in to land, or something to that effect. In the recent thread on "Tones", it was pretty conclusive that it was a Carl project, so, if you're a "Brian-only purist", I guess it's out. But, if you're a "kitchen sink" compiler, it stays. Cheesy

Also, it appears some people are into "re-building" the barn after the fire, with "Workshop". I used it to "build the home on the range" after "Cabinessence".

Don't have one to share as I think the Purple Chick mix is near definitive. But, a question, how long are your mixes? Would it be feasible to put them on one LP in 1966??

My mix is about an hour. But, no, it would not have been feasible to put ALL of the SMiLE songs on one LP in 1966. But almost all of it...

4.   Barnyard
5.   The Old Master Painter/You Are My Sunshine
6.   Wonderful
7.   Child Is Father Of The Man
8.   Cabin Essence
9.   Good Vibrations (alternate Hum-Be-Dum version)
10.   Wind Chimes
11.   Vegetables
12.   Elements Suite: Mrs O'Leary's Cow/Friday Night/Water Chant/Love to Say Dada (edited together)
13.   Holidays
14.   Surf’s Up (Annie Wallace Mix)
15.   Look

"Bonus Tracks"
16.I Wanna Be Around/Friday Night
17.Heroes & Villains and Barnyard Demo
18.Vegetables Demo (Cornucopia Version)
19.Surf’s Up (Brian Solo)
20.Surf’s Up (Tracking)
21.Good Vibrations (Tracking)
22.Cabin Essence (Tracking)
23.Bicycle Rider Theme

15.   Look

Interesting end(ing), TonyW.

But, "Look" does work after "Surf's Up", both musically and lyrically. "I heard the word, wonderful thing, A CHILDREN'S SONG". Then comes "Look", or as BWPS would title it, "SONG FOR CHILDREN"!!!!!!

Prayer (GVBox version)
H&V's (Cantina version)
Cabinessence
He Gives Speeches
The Old Master Painter/Sunshine
I Wanna Be Around/ Friday Night
Can't Wait Too Long (a cappella mix)
Wonderful
Look
CITFOTM
Surf's Up

Good Vibrations
Vegetables
Do You Like Worms (G.V. Box version)
Holidays
Wind Chimes
Fall Breaks and Back to Winter
Mrs. O'Leary's Cow
Water Chant
I Love to Say Da Da
Tones
Your Welcome
With Me Tonight (Harpsichord version)

I deliberatly left out Barnyard. I like DYLW right before Holidays because it connects melodically the first half of my mix with the second (a la the H&V theme), and it has the Roll Plymouth Rock melodic connection with Holidays. I like how Sunshine connects with IWBA as a way of coping with heartbreak..and then CWTL into WOnderful/Look/Child and Surf's Up conveys the aftermath in a sense of all that.

Good Vibes would've been the start of Side 2 had SMiLE! been released in 67 IMO, so I decided to start off side two with GV.

It's pretty much a stereo reconstruction of the 2004 version mostly using tracks from the original. It does use some of the 2004 tracks though (One point which works very well is the 60's Cabinessence ending with the 2004 tag. Wonderful.)

3. Do You Like Worms
4. He Gives Speeches (Mok Version Sped Up)
5. Wonderful

13. Vege-Tables (Andreas Mix)
14. Surf's Up (Purple Chick into Original version)

Ok, i've been inspired to make my own smile mix.
I've had a few ideas for a while so it only took an afternoon to edit this all together.

Granted, i've omitted quite a few songs.
GV doesn't belong in my book, so it's out.
OMP,YAMS, Friday Night, Barnyard all dropped as they don't do much or go anywhere to me.
Also, i've opted to use Hawthorne versions of H&V and Vegatables which are Smiley Smile takes. Sacrilege maybe, they are better versions i think, particually H&V this version is better than the cantina version that many people favor.
I've also opted continue to have the suites as the Americana/Cycle of Life/Elements linage.

TRACKLISTING:

1. Untitled Instrumental [Spanish Guitar Piece] (Secret SMiLE Disc 2)
2. Heroes & Villians (Hawthorne)
3. Holidays (Odeon)
4. Heroes & Villians [Intro] (GV Box - Actually Fire Intro)
5. Do You Like Worms (Odeon)
6. Cabinessence (Extended Intro added* GV Box)
7. Heroes & Villians [Sections] (GV Box)
8. Prayer (GV Box)
9. Wonderful (Extended Intro added* Vigotone) (GV Box)
10. Child Is The Father Of The Man (Jazzy Part inserted at the start* Odeon)
11. Look (Odeon)
12. VegaTables (Hawthorne)
13. Wind Chimes (Extended Intro added* Secret SMiLE Disc 1) (GV Box)
14. Elements Part 1 [Fire] (Secret SMiLE Disc 2)
15. Waterchant (Odeon Cut from Cool, Cool, Water)
16. I Love To Say Da Da (Odeon)
17. Surfs Up [Instrumental + Demo] (Odeon)

*I didn't like how some of the songs started vocals straight away, with no musical introduction. I really enjoy the instrumental versions of the songs songs too, so I decided to often edit in the instrumental version (or part) of the song first.

If anyone wants to hear this, pm or email me.

Fun, isn't it? So, you're using the old "Spanish Guitar" snippet; I'd still like to know specifically where (what session) that came from.

Yeah, great fun. I really didn't want to do the usual "Prayer" up first & I thought that the Spanish guitar bit fitted in the H&V theme musically, like a wild west kind of thing. I think it works well.

I tried to have Tones/Tune X in there also, but since i've added instrumental intros to songs it would of been too much instrumental themes I think.

I was also going to put "Your Welcome" after "Surf's Up" but I decided that you can't have a better ending than SU!

So many people put "You're Welcome" after "Surf's Up" or at the end. I just don't get it. It sounds so much like a, well, a "welcoming" song, a song that would go at the beginning. DAMAGED, explain it to me. Huh

Speaking for myself, I just think that You're Welcome is in a sense a response to , "Thank You". It definitely fits at the end for me, but I guess it could fit anywhere...what a simple and profound song!

"You're Welcome" TO COME. I never viewed it as thank you/you're welcome. It's those two words - TO COME - that hang me up. "You're welcome to come" - where, Brian? Where?

I see where your comming from with that.

Your mix looks like a good listen, I was looking at it closer before thinking about how the songs link together. "Your Welcome" at the start is a nice idea.
