The January '09 issue of Mojo magazine names Dennis Wilson's
Pacific Ocean Blue
Legacy Edition its Reissue Of The Year. That's pretty damn cool.

Freaking awesome! This news definitely put a huge smile on my face.
I really hope all the respect this album/reissue has gotten allows for more DW related releases in the future.

Well, that explains why I had an urge to play POB/Bambu today. Fantastic news -- congratulations to all involved!

Great! I'd even go as far as calling it the reissue of the century, can't see anything else topping it in the coming years.

I hope that makes some more people buy the album, because sales is what counts when record companies consider releasing more stuff from the vaults.

It's extended shelf life. Common practice though this example is a bit extreme. When I used to work on a monthly mag full-time it threw out my time clock – greatest excuse for missing birthdays there ever was!

Right on! Now perhaps Mrs. Guercio & Hanlon will give us another set, with Dennis' remaining unreleased Caribou-era studio tracks (Taking Off, Cry, Fever, etc.) and the best takes from the '77 tour rehearsals...

Yeah magazine's always run about a month or more ahead when it comes to their cover dates. This issue of Mojo is out now in the UK and will be out in about a week or two in the U.S. This is a really nice accolade for the 2008 POB/Bambu release. Since it did well in the charts considering its 30 year old music, and since it sold well, and since it received stellar reviews from most of the major publications and newspapers, I don't find it surprising at all that it ranked among the best reissues of '08. There will probably be more accolades. But it still feels good to know it had enough impact for Mojo to acknowledge it as not just one of the best vintage releases of the year, but
THE
best. That's pretty damn cool.

The two magazines which took this practice to the extreme were SURFER and SURFING - in the 60s & 70s when these two mags dominated the US Surf coverage they were in so much competition with each other that they got to a point where "to be first" with the news the issue date was 5 months in advance.
Back to POB and a huge congratulations to everybody - I constantly find myself returning to this wonderful set. The Bambu tracks just keep getting better and better. The music is timeless.

Aye, I should have added my tuppeny-worth - a million and one congrats to Jon and those involved.
This was by far and away one of the best archive packages I've come across and I've rarely had the Bambu disc out of the car player since it arrived.
Album Tag song in particular I can't get out of my head; Tug of Love is incredible; Love Remember Me one of the best things I've heard by anyone, anytime; Cocktails frankly exhausts me inside.
As one poster said above, this is a new rock album not a re-issue and in terms of integrity would have stood alone without POB to help it sell.
Let's have more!

Great archival work Alan and everyone involved. The fleshed-out "Bambu" is poignant and
epic, POB bonus tracks (all the bonus tracks) are fantastic.
Great suggestion of best of POB tour rehearsals, Caribou-era cuts, even Dennis/Dragon material
to be compiled in one of the most ambitious compilations of totally unreleased music by any artist ever released!
I'm not holding my breath. Congratulations on the accolades for what we DO have now!

Wow, what a critical consensus of high-profile honors! If only Dennis had been able to defeat his demons and appreciate this time in the sun for his beloved music.
I amend the previous post to a slightly more feasible 2-disc set of his Beach Boys offerings on
disc 1 and unreleased solo stuff on disc 2, as has already been proposed ad nauseum (it's
a little sickening to think about how unlikely it is to ever happen) by others in previous posts
and threads.
Celebrate the News, Denny, wherever you are! You were a fine, sensitive artist.

I'm hearing the Queen enhanced version of Holy Man is getting some studio attention in L.A. again in the coming weeks(previous mixes done in both London and L.A. went
un-approved
). This perhaps could mean another potential DW package, or a single...or an unreleased track with a heck of a lot of work put into it.

un-approved? What was wrong with it? Just the mix, or more?
Anyway, I'd love to see this DW/Hawkins/Taylor/May "collaboration" become reality (as in: being released). I'm very curious what the result is/will be.

70s Queen is great, some of the best music ever made, the 80s less so. Without Freddie even more so.
