What's up with all the recent spam?

Anybody else notice (other than the mods, who obviously have, considering they've been great about removing it) the spam in this forum recently? In the past two days or so, I think I've noticed 4-5 different spam threads: porn, the bs obama thing that's here now, and several others I've forgotten about. First posts, hidden-identity new members, etc. Is there a reason for the sudden increase, or is it just a coincidental thing that there has been much more than usual lately?

Don't know what's happening. Since last week we get about 20 new "members" each day. Some of them "posting" spam.

Apparently the Shut Down board currently is having the same problem. Reading Susan's message on that board makes clear we're not the only ones. But it's still pretty annoying.

Annoying indeed. Nice to see how quickly it's coming down, though. I've been on boards before where members mistake those for real posts and start responding. It gets ridiculous, big arguments and diatribes against "people" who aren't even there to read them!
