Scott, do you think there's a chance that we'll get to see the Beach Boys Band on the European mainland in the not too distant future?

Enjoyed the show in Kansas City Scott. Good job. One big plus and then a minus if I may. Wow, it has been awhile since I heard Still Cruisin' in concert. I was awestruck. Obviously the plus. But now the minus and this was as obvious as the nose on my face. The first song, California Girls, was sooo sloooww. Not good right out of the gate. Make any sense? Why the slow tempo?

Damn!  All this talk of rarities makes me really regret not being able to attend the show here in my hometown (Knoxville, TN) on Thursday night.  My finances just won't allow it right now.  The guys are playing at a very lovely theater in town.  Scott, I hope you all enjoy your time here.  Any chance you can leave me two tickets at the box office!!!  Grin  Just kidding.

Hi Dave-

Thanks for coming to the show and for your comments.  I just checked my showtape against the record and we were 3bpm too slow.  (113 vs. 116).  No reason other than we're just human.  I will give Cowsill 40 lashes!

I would also love to see the band on mainland Europe.

It's great you're here. But I imagine lots of people here would love Mike to drop by every now and then. I'm sure we'd all be on good behaviour if he did, though I only speak for myself of course, and we'd all have a lot of questions, mainly of the who-did-what type of variety. Don't know if you could pass an invite on... I also hope writing this doesn't offend anyone.

I must reply. John, didn't mean to get you in trouble. You were awesome Sunday night in your bubble. I really mean it. You get better every time I see you. As for the bpm aspect that I caught, is this something that decades of seeing California Girls performed live causes? Scott? I mean, the music lives in my head.

Are you saying that you were expectng the old live version, which is certainly faster than the record?

All I'm saying is that because we are human and therefore imperfect, one night a certain tempo will be one click too slow, one night right on and one night one click too fast.  It's the nature of seeing a live show.

The music lives in my head too!

Its really nice to see Beach Boys posting here, just as it is nice seeing Bruce posting over on the BBB board. Saw The Beach Boys last couple times they rolled through Alberta and was thoroughly impressed! Can't wait for you guys to get back up here to Calgary with John on the skins!!!

My girlfriend and I will be attending the show tonight here in Knoxville, TN despite the fact that I really shouldn't have spent the extra money on tickets.  I couldn't help myself!!

Scott or John, is there anyway that you all could play one (or more!) of the following songs:  Forever, Good Timin', Little Honda, or Don't Back Down?  I don't know if you all have arrangements worked up for any of those at this time, so if you can't, no worries.  I just thought I would throw out a request!!  I've seen Brian, but never Mike and Bruce, so I'm looking forward to this!

Hey Love and Mercy!

Nice to see a fellow Calgarian on the board.  Are you going to the Cowsills show on Friday night here?  Should be great.  I miss Billy Cowsill (saw him live about 25- 30 times here - one of the best live singers EVER - scary good), but even if John Cowsill doesn't make it (I think he will be in Danville, KY) I hear Bob, Paul an Susan Cowsill put on a great show.  Can't Wait!

I agree, it really is great to have Scott and John posting here!  Bring the whole band by!  You guys put on such a great show.  And I love it when the setlist gets adventurous.

Cheers,

"Poor Baby"  by the Cowsills rocks my world! Totally.

OK back to the regular diuscussion

Hey RobMac,

Jack away!  Poor Baby is a brilliant tune.  The accapella break is jaw-droppingly good.  Like the Beach Boys  - the Cowsills could really deliver great vocal arrangments and performances.

Don't Back Down:

Ill be at the starbucks 1/2 block west of the paramount at 7:15 Saturday nite with my wife to meet up with my brother from Ohio before the show.
See you there?  I will wear a 25 anniversary BB badge on my shirt/jacket.......look for the 50 something couple looking (something) like Mike Meros and Dianne Keaton.

I know there was someone else from here that mentioned meeting at the show...who was that?   Lets all get together for a few minutes at least if we can!

I saw the guys last night here in Knoxville, TN.  It was a great show!!  Scott, thanks for getting two of my requests in there!!  The show had plenty of rarities and deep cuts.  This isn't the "greatest hits" show that I went in expecting.  I don't remember the complete setlist, but we were treated to:  Don't Back Down, Sail on Sailor, All This is That, Ballad of Ol' Betsy, Their Hearts Were Full of Spring, She's Not the Little Girl I Once Knew, Wendy, You're So Good to Me, Darlin', and Do It Again amongst all of the other obvious mega hits.  Very cool show!  Thanks John and Scott and any other band member that may be reading.

Cosmic, please desribe the venue for me. The show I saw last Sunday night was at a casino and we sure didn't get many of those songs you listed. Not happy about that! From what Scott has said here, the casino shows are different than a theatre or such. Just interested so I can post a follow up.

The show was at the Tennessee Theater here in Knoxville, TN.  It is an absolutely gorgeous old theater that may seat about 2000 at the most, maybe less.  I'm not really sure.  The theater was renovated a few years ago and a sound team came in to make sure it would sound incredible.  I'm not sure what all they did, but it worked!!  It seems to be a favorite for most artists that visit.  When I saw Elvis Costello there, he kept going on about how great it sounded and how lovely it was.  At the Beach Boys show, Bruce mentioned a couple of times how great it was to be playing in our beautiful theater.  It's definitely a different setting than a casino would be.

Mike spoke favorably about the old Paramount theater in KY.   The set list was great
Saturday night, and I have to say the vocals and harmony were ........well, just about as good as the originals.......that sounds like blasphemy as I type this but listening to All This is That and Their Hearts Were of Spring, not to mention WIBN.........I was transported.....

Folks, I think I finallly get it.....Its all about the music.  The music of the BeachBoys is the star.  We all know who wrote what for the most part and credit has been given where it is due..for the most part.

I've seen Brian twice with Pet Sounds and SMiLE but it was very satisfying to see Mike and Bruce again..and to see and hear this congfiguration of the BeachBoys capture those sounds again in such a manner as to satisfy this hard core fan.

If you get a chance, go see this show.   I can't imagine you'll be disappointed.
