what are some of the non-hit single tracks that mike and bruce drop into their sets?
i'm aware of:
* 'til i die (LOL at their nerve to play this!)
* all this is that (sounds really sweet)
* disney girls (lol bruce)
* good timin'
* summer in paradise
* somewhere near japan
* it's OK
* sail on sailor
did they ever play "summer of love" live? come on, that would be awesome

Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring
Everyone's In Love With You
Bluebirds Over The Mountain
Don't Back Down
The Warmth Of The Sun
Forever
Getcha Back
Still Cruisin'
and
Summer Means Fun
Cool Head Warm Heart

Good Timin' (#40) , It's OK (#29) and SOS (# 79 and #49) could be considered hits though, albeit minor ones ....

Still no "Feel Flows" or "The Trader", though. Or any SMiLE material sans Good Vibrations and H&V.

Have you actually
heard
their live rendition of the song ? They do a damn fine job, and Mike's intro (yes, he mentions Brian) is close to reverential. You might as well chastise Brian for having the nerve to play "Forever", or "Heaven".

Not exactly modern, but in 1980 at The Spectrum in Philadelphis, I saw The Beach Boys perform "Long Tall Texan". Brian was there, and Mike introduced the song "as a request from Brian Wilson". They performed it well, one of the highlights of the concert, mainly because I was stunned that they played it!

I think he was referring to the stories of Mike's dislike for the song when Brian initially wrote it.

yeah. i've heard them do it on that newcastle '04 bootleg, it doesn't sound bad at all, it's just such a personal song of brian's. i haven't heard mike's intro though. what does he say?
and let's hear brian do "kokomo"!

On the Warmth Of The Sun podcast ML had some rather nice things to say about 'Til I Die, mostly referring to it as a song about everyone being just mortal. While it is indeed a very personal song, BW's lyrics are very simple, which might add to the song being more appealling to Mike than Surf's Up, for example.

Good to see ya here, Scott! I'm hoping to make at least one of the shows at Potowatomi Casino in Milwaukee later this month, but don't know if my finances will allow me to yet.
As for requests, I'll leave that to others. I'm glad that you are introducing some lesser-known songs that were never performed by the guys back in the day.
The segue from "Let Him Run Wild" to "Little Girl I Once Knew" is classic. Heard a recording of a show last year and was blown away at that moment.
Hope you stick around, this is a great forum

I'm assuming this is Scott Totten? It's always nice to see a Beach Boys band member here. Stop by again, if you're not too busy. I'm sure that there are folks with questions.

Somewhere Near Japan
This Whole World (I think John Cowsill might nail this!)

hello scott
one of the beach boys registered just to post in my thread! i'm honoured.
i reckon the set could do with some more of definitive but lesser-known Mike lead vocal moments like that's not me, it's OK, aren't you glad, meant for you/friends... oh and match point of our love! a overlooked great song. i reckon it would suit bruce's voice great too.

Hm, requests...
We'll Run Away
The Trader
Deirdre
and something from Denny's solo career... besides River Song, none of that has ever been played live by any Beach Boy to my knowledge

Definitely gotta do We'll Run Away!
also Big Sur, All I wanna Do, or any song where Mike sings in his 'calm' style. Bruce ought to sing some Rip Chords/Bruce & Terry stuff. Hope to see M&B soon!

Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome to the board, and for the great suggestions! We actualy did work up Friends last year but it never made it into a show. And Caroline No sung by yours truly but we ran into curfew problems in the UK.
Tpesky will be gald to know that we are rehearsing This Whole World!

Well according to a quote by Bruce in David Leaf's book he says something about how a certain member (although of course he doesn't mention who) of the band didn't like the song and put it down and then Brian didn't go near the song for a few months as he was (in Bruce's words) "crushed". So whether or not it was Mike, SOMEONE obviously didn't like it.
