Girls, girls, girls, yeah I dig the girrrrrls....

Cool interview. I really enjoy M.Wards music (if you havent yet heard Chinese Translation yet, you tube it). The She and Him record he did with Zooey is great as well. It would be interesting to hear Brian do some production work for them.

Curious as to why. Brian comes off much better with females than males.

I just hate watching Brian interviews most of the time, he just feels really uncomfortable...and to see him with people who don't 'get it' is just awkward to me. If he was being interviewed by someone in the know, maybe even VDP then ok great...but I think the extent of Zooey's (whom I LOVE) knowledge of Brian is just the Beach Boys music...

I agree with there. It definitely was a little fawning and shallow.

Still, I prefer this assured (almost cocky) Brian to what I see in most interviews. Ya really got to wonder though.....is he just twisting our knobs?

Honest to god, I think that there is more behind the eyelids going on than we ever realize. Part of the mystery.

That was one cool interview! He comes across like a bear, and it's so good to watch an interview where you feel he's not being prodded and scripted. GEt the idea he'd've opened up a bit more if she'd played up the nervous interviewer even more!

Cause the big man's a legend and she's not.

Though she is very cute and talented, I just bought her album now, the samples sound great.

Wow, as if I needed another reason to be totally in love with Zooey...she seems like a genuine fan, and she put Brian very at ease.  I would have loved for the conversation to go another 20 minutes.  It always seems like Brian is so much more communicative when you talk to him about music, rather than the same tired subjects that most interviewers bombard him with.

Loved Brian's line at the end too ("you're a very pretty girl")...not exactly smooth but still sweet.

Thanks for the link...... that was great.  As you can tell from my avatar I agree with Brian,  Zooey is sooooooo cute.  Smiley

I also agree that some of the tracks on her LP got that Spector/Wilson vibe, which I love.

Go to Amazon and give it a listen for yourself.  You might end up buying one, like I did.

"You're a very pretty girl!"   LOL Shocked Grin Cheesy Afro Wink I bet Brian was waiting through the whole interview just to say that!

I would've loved to see Brian and Zooey sing something together. The only song I've heard from the She and Him album is "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?", but I just may be inclined to buy the whole thing.

And yes, Brian was right...Miss Deschanel is a VERY pretty girl!  Kool-Aid Man Banana

Does anyone else get the impression that Brian *never* gets tired of hearing people rave about "Smile"? :-P

Thanks for the link, PongHit!

That would've been funny if Zooey would've given Brian a dose of his own medicine and said, "I like Track #4 and #12 on your new album...."

While M Ward is a pretty obvious Beach Boys fan (his Transistor Radio opens with an instrumental version of "You Still Believe In Me"), I wouldn't say She & Him sounds much like the Beach Boys at all. There are parts that are blatant Spector nods ("I Was Made For You," "Sweet Darlin"), so in a way that's BB-esque, but more a shared influence.

There's definitely Beach Boys influence in She & Him. Compare the last 35 seconds or so of Sentimental Heart to the last 35 seconds or so of I'm Waiting For the Day.
