This footage is priceless to me for a number of reasons, but unfortunately, the actual rehearsal isn't one of them...  Dennis wanted me to shoot this for a TV campaign in Europe to promote their upcoming tour, a tour that wound up being canceled.  They made the flight over only to appear at a European CBS convention, and most of you know what a disaster that turned performance into.
The night before we shot, Dennis & I went to visit Brian at his house, to let him know so that he wouldn't be freaked out by the lights & camera.  When he arrived the next day, he was sporting this new look.  Dennis asked him about it, and Brian replied that he wanted to look good for the camera, so he gave himself a haircut after we left!  Next, we found out that neither Mike nor Carl were going to be there that day - only Brian, Dennis, Al, & the boys in the band. This was during the time of Carl's back injury, and when he did show up the next day, it was obvious that he should have stayed in bed!
But there are many great moments in the film, and it's been used in a variety of places.  (I'll never forget sitting in Radio City Music Hall, and having Dennis Hopper speaking over a portion of it, during Brian's tribute concert!)  There is a brief clip of Dennis drumming shirtless from this day in the new POB promo film, (you can view that here:  http://www.pacificoceanblue.net/ ), and I'm pretty sure some of it is in Endless Harmony.  Someday, I'll cut it all together, or at least find a way to release some more of the priceless moments - hopefully!

I love that above picture of Brian and others from that session. He looked so "thoughtful", almost contemplative.

Well, Sheriff John, these aren't more photos of Brian.
However, they are from that day.  This first one is outside American Productions, and is of Diane, Al, and Dennis is his Ford with the rumble seat:

The next one was shot by Dennis, and that's your humble author in the middle:

That makes two of us. I saw one on Ebay a while back but it was going for quite a bit of money (which I didn't have).

Yargh! I never thought of looking for it on ebay...I just figured they were made for BB's themselves.

Nope, those shirts were sold at concerts in the mid-70s. I have one in powder blue.

Eddie, thanks for sharing your pix and stories!

Put me in that category too... ever since becoming a fan I have wanted one of those shirts... I don't have a Beach Boys shirt as I think most of them like pretty average, but those ones are the coolest ones I've seen.

Take a look, and you'll notice that the first logo was a different image.  They originally used "The End of the Trail", and Jack Rieley had it painted on a huge billboard type thing at the top of Topanga Canyon.  When Dennis I drove past it, I pointed it out to him, and they changed it to this more optimistic view of an Indian...
We almost got Ricky Fataar to pose for a new version of it, too!

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Yeah, I've seen that one. It's been on there for a while...or at least a copy of it. I just bought some rare-ish magazines off of Ebay, will scan in the pictures when I receive them!

For all of the photos taken of the BB, there are so few of the brothers together.
