So I've made a couple of BW compilations to cover his work in the years between Imagination and GIOMH and then from Smile to TLOS. I think that it's important for folks who really follow BW to know about this stuff -- because some of his most interesting work is in the margins.

I've restrained myself largely to studio work; the live shows have been well-documented. I'm also not using bootlegged material -- this has all had legit release, in one form or another. We can get so caught up in Brian the tormented genius that we forget how busy he is. I've also generally sequenced the material chronologically -- in the first CD, I put in some interludes, though.

These are pretty cool disks -- it's a shame they could never be released in the real world.

Brian Wilson
"Everything I Need"
1998-2004

1.   Piano Feel 1 (from On Tour DVD)
2.   In My Room (with Tammy Wynette)
3.   Without Understanding (Ringo Starr)
4.   The Night Was So Young (piano only version from BW.com)
5.   Little Deuce Coupe (with Brian Setzer)
6.   BW on songwriting (from On Tour DVD)
7.   Everything I Need (with Jeff Foskett)
8.   On Christmas Day (tracking sessions from BW.com)
9.   On Christmas Day (track from BW.com)
10. On Christmas Day (vocal sessions from BW.com)
11. On Christmas Day
12. Piano Feel 2 (from On Tour DVD)
13. Nature Is the Law (Ricard Ashcroft)
14. Hand On My Shoulder (Anton Fig)
15. Hand On My Shoulder (backing vocals only)
16. California Girls (Nancy Sinatra)
17. Ride (Wondermints)
18. So Nice (Wondermints)
19. White Christmas (BW.com)
20. California Feelin'
21. Piano Feel 3 (from On Tour DVD)
22. Rodney on the ROQ
23. Fooling Yourself (Styx)
24. Don't Worry Baby (Carnie and Wendy Wilson)
25. In My Room (Wilson Phillips)
26. Love and Mercy (piano only from BW.com)

The tracklist for the second, which covers 2004-2008, will follow. (I'm dividing up the 2004 tracks between discs simply for listenability's sake. Although given that I have four versions of "On Christmas Day" in a row, our definitions of listenability may vary.)

Never heard about the piano version of The Night Was So Young. When was it released? And is it worth checking out?

It's about a minute of Brian just playing it on the piano. He sings the title but no other words. I could have posted the link four or five days ago, but the bw.com site has changed now, and I don't think it's up anymore.

And here's the second disk. I don't have any bridging tracks on this one.

Brian Wilson
"Walking Down the Path of Life"
2004-2008

1.  No Wrong Notes in Heaven (with Scott Bennett)
2.  Grief Never Grows Old (Tsunami charity single)
3.  Love and Mercy (live at the Concert for Hope)
4.  Walking Down the Path of Life
5.  Doin' The Krabby Patty (SpongeBob Squarepants)
6.  Believe in Yourself
7.  The Spirit of Rock and Roll
8.  Delirious Love (Neil Diamond)
9.  Delirious Love (live on the Tonight Show)
10. You Are So Beautiful (with Carnie Wilson)
11. Wish It Would Rain (Roger Manning -- a total cheat)
12. God Only Knows
13. What Love Can Do (demo from BBC broadcast)
14. What Love Can Do
15. Raven (Taylor Mills)
16. Cradle Me (Taylor Mills)
17. In My Room (Bill Medley)
18. Speed Turtle
19. Live Let Live (Arctic Tale)
20. Midnight's Another Day (website version)
21. Heaven

(The Manning track is a cheat because the former Jellyfish member tried to collaborate with Brian on this song in the early 90s. Brian was intrigued, and he had suggestions for the tune, but then the collaboration -- a whole afternoon's worth of time -- ended. Manning included the tune on his recent CD, and I doubt any BW remains. But why not include it anyway.)
