This sounds great!

His vocal performance sounds much more impressive to me than on BWPS and the whole thing seems like something you might want to play to non-fans as well. Kind of the opposite of GIOMH.

The reprise of TLOS after Southern California reminds me somewhat of Ding Dang!

Even weirder:
First thing I thought when I heard that reprise it somehow reminded me of "Rollin' Up To Heaven" (which is course the "early dirty" version of Ding Dang)

Check out the Beach Boys Starline website, the place for pictures of many countries Beach Boys releases on 45.

Kinda ironic that the name of the track is "Rollin' 'Round Heaven", no?

Or maybe that's not so ironic...

Does anybody know the origins of the TLOS snippet at the end of Southern California? - the "sound" of it seems to fit with the Sweet Insanity era.

It's a beautiful summer day outside, but I'm inside enjoying this!  I already had high expectations, but it's even better than I thought it would be!

Tony -- It's all from Brian's recent work. It's a rearrangement of the "Lucky Old Sun" song that the band sang and played at the London shows last year as a teaser in their first set. The version on the album seems to be an all-Brian recording, which accounts for the slightly off-kilter sound. I think it's awesome.

Thanks Claymcc, I've listened again a few times and I guess it's the "woot, woot"'s plus the multilayering of the Brian only vocals that give it that "Sweet Insanity outtake" sound.

I wish he would on albums put the "wall of Brian's" in just a few spots like that on the actual songs, it would KICK ASS if you know like right in the middle of "Oxygen" all of a sudden every voice is Brian's, then after 10 seconds it goes back to all the band.

I really like the album, i think the music is great. If only we could turn his voice back 30 years or so though.

My first instinct was to say that Brian's voice was a lot worse 30 years ago than it is now, but I guess not. What is that, MIU? I really like his voice on MIU.

I still think this is an old man's album, though, no matter how much I like Scott's demo of Southern California better than the official version.

I was thinking more like 40, although parts of the album wouldn't really work with his sweet younger voice.  I can't imagine something like "Midnight's Another Day" or "Southern California" having quite the same impact with a younger Brian.

Yeah, Southern California is more affecting with a world-weary voice to sing it. It's saying, "Don't sleep your way through life [like I did]."

If I said that, for the most part, it reminds me of 15 Big Ones-meets-'Brian Wilson'(88) - I wouldn't be very popular, would I?
A huge amount of effort, love, care and attention to detail has gone into the making of this album. But, and I'm a very long-standing fan, I just can't bring myself to like it.
Sometimes the hardest thing in life is just being honest.

I'm finally listening to the stream (I was trying to hold off til it comes out on Monday but have crumbled  Cheesy).

I'm really enjoying it. It's not 100% genius or anything (some of the lyrics are really cloying for me), but some moments have completely wowed me. I've just cried at the start of Live Let Live :-)

Well, stylistically that pretty much nails it.

15 Big Ones, BW88, and Lucky Old Sun are all similar in that they have moments of brilliance and moments of insanity, I would definately say Lucky Old Sun is a much better album than the other two, but you get both with Brian.  He'll never make another Pet Sounds, he barely pulled it off the first time.  I've developed an appreciation for his crazier stuff, but hey that's what makes it a Brian Wilson album.
