I read on another board there is a boot called "SMiLE: Mark Linett Rough Mixes"--has anybody heard this?  Anything notably new or different?

Hopefully this isn't a verboten topic here...if it is, no prob...

I can't imagine that simply discussing the content of a boot could be banned. If that be banned, then we might as well ban discussing things like speeding, gambling on a Chicago Transit Authority train, or removing a tag from the mattress, as those are illegal too.

What I meant was, since Linett is an honored guest on our board, perhaps it might be a tad awkward discussing something leaked directly from his work...

Anybody else find the thread title misleading? BWPS and the 'Rough Mixes' boot from the late 80's, have nothing to do with each other...

Except that he's clearly talking about the rough mixes of BWPS.

I suspect it is probably the 1988 thing, not BWPS.

Sorry!  My misinterpretation...

That would make a little more sense. I can't imagine anyone would be interested in rough mixes of BWPS which could only sound like an inferior version of what was released.

Actually, it's perfectly legal for the owner of a mattress to remove the tag from said mattress.  It's the seller that can't.

There is a boot floating around called the Alternate BWPS though.  I saw it listed on a blog somewhere along the way but didn't bother with it, as I also assumed it was just an inferior version of the real thing.  That or one of the live recordings maybe?  Just speculation on my part.

Yeah, if there is one thing history has taught us, it's that Beach Boys fans are only interested in final, released product, not alternate mixes, sessions or outtakes.

Great news. Maybe now I can think of returning from Canada and resuming my old life.

Add a few doses of cynicism, a dab of tough love, and a lot of condescending feelings along with the irony and you have a Male Ego post. Smiley

This board's too nice. We need some more mean-spirited remarks here.

You will note the deliberate attempt to drive the thread off-topic, in the Ego tradition.

The Alternate Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE is just another fan mix made by a guy who calls himself The Alternate Brian Wilson.  He had a blog or something somewhere but I think the powers that be got it shut down.

The Mark Linett Rough Mixes are from 1988 when there was a possibility of a Capitol release, and those rumors about Brian redoing SMiLE with Landy-fied lyrics.

Don't forget John B's original Message Board, which evolved/devolved into Male Ego, via a few heated discussions and a change of server.

Where is Junkstar these days? Anyone know?

For the record, I wasn't being cynical, condescending, had no tough love to offer and have never been to nor posted on the Male Ego board. I was just making a joke.

MTG  (for mike's the greatest) was the local idiot (imo) there. had heated discussions with that dude many times, as did others.

like i said...my handle was 2 words put together into one word....won't say what that was but a clue to the oldies who posted there back then... "HL" were the 1st letters of the 2 words....    Grin

really miss that board...  Wink

Yeah, I gathered most of that. Just making sure my intentions weren't being distorted. I'm very rightly called an asshole often enough, so I try to make sure when I'm not being one, nobody thinks it of me.  Grin
