Sorry to start another J&D-thread but I thought this should be on it's own. My questio is, how much of said album was actually recorded live?

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

"Here They Come From All Over The World" is the studio version over-dubbed with screaming kids. The other tunes were recorded live in Sacramento doctored in the studio probably the same way as the BB 1964 Concert album.

Perhaps a more tricky question would be, how much of "Filet Of Soul - A Live One" (the originally released version) is actually 'live', performed before an audience...?

Thank you.
I wondered because some of the vocals sound like they were double-tracked. Not to talk about how "un-live" some of the tracks sound (e.g. "All I have to do is dream")

Rocker I have read Stephen Mcparlands books on Jan and Dean (very good though a little off topic sometimes) and the music was done live for this album and the vocals in the studio. I think this was done to give the sound more balance.

Thanks ! I haen't listened to this or quite a while now, but I remember thinking that some of the instrumental tracks also sound like studio. But well, maybe I'm wrong with that...

Command Performance does, however, illustrate Jan & Dean's approach to live concerts . . . Orchestrations with full brass and woodwind arrangements (just like the records) . . . but no attempt to re-create the depth of vocal harmonies from the original studio versions.
