I'm curious... what does everyone think of "Black Sheep", the Brian Wilson/Smile parody from 'Walk Hard'?

I dunno, I think the guy in the movie was right - that's not a very good song.  I think Van Dyke set his sights too high... I mean, it doesn't really have a melody to it, because the key changes every damn line!  Perhaps I was just spoiled by the far superior "Pancreas" the previous year, though.

I would recommend seeing this part of the movie in the unrated version though... there's a ton of stuff added to it (including Dewey recording the sounds of his wife giving birth and, for some reason, some random girl's breasts) and it's just brilliant.  They even manage to spoof Brian's odd instructions (like Brian wanting the cymbals to 'sound like jewelry'), but I won't spoil that. :-)

I heard an interview with the writer of walk hard.  Hilarious.  The interviewer mentioned that porn had been studied extensively prior to the making of Boggie Nights.  The writer confirmed the rumor and also confessed  that the research was indeed ongoing even to this day......and in fact that was where he got the idea for the title of Walk Hard  LOL LOL

Yeah so where is the smartypants member who clearly stated something about prioritries.  Say, where is your holier-than-thou-post here?

Yeah. I still get a big kick outta that Smile parody. ("The strings aren't ting-ee enough!!) Though I don't think Brian had a bad temper, because in Walk Hard, Dewey has a bad temper during the session for Black Sheep

I don't know, some of the excerpts I've heard from vocal takes have him sounding kind of irritated. It seems like when the rest of the Beach Boys couldn't meet his perfectionist standard for vocals he'd start giving them a hard time, which probably seemed really annoying after 40+ takes on 5 second vocal snippets (which happened quite a few times during Smile). The reason Bruce Johnston is on the tag of "God Only Knows" is because all of the rest of the group left because Brian was on about take 245  of the day (OK, I don't know how many takes, but it was a lot) and didn't want to stop. Bruce was the only one who stayed, and it got him a vocal on Paul McCartney's favorite song of all-time. Brian seemed to stay calm during the Wrecking Crew sessions, probably because they were paid session musicians, which created a more professional atmosphere.

The moment during that sequence of the movie that I'll always love is when Dewey Cox simply says "Mike, you're flatting."

I about died laughing that it was included, and assumed it was done on purpose.  Of course, the rest of the people seeing it with me thought I was nuts.
